Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Melanie, I got involved in this website when I was curious about what graves of some of my favorite film and music stars looked like. I have been interested in cemeteries since I was very small. I've lived in Northern California since 1987. I am a forestry technician and inspector for the US Forest Service and have worked in the Tahoe National Forest since 1999. Hence, I tend to know where to find some of these obscure little pioneer cemeteries that are hidden deep within the forest. If you have a family member or friend buried in Nevada, Sierra, El Dorado, Yuba or Placer county, California, I might be able to find it for you, since I've lived here over 20 years. If I have created a page which you would like to take over management for, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to transfer it to you.

As of September 2016, I'm currently living in Montgomery County, Texas. I'm still learning my way around, but still doing the same as before, seeking out little known, nearly-forgotten pioneer graves within the National Forest.

RE: Connie Caravelli
Thank you again! I would have never known where they would've been buried as it's in a forest. Your work is very much appreciated.

I would be more than happy to maintain the Butler memorials. As i'm not quite sure if there is relation to the others buried there yet. Thank you and happy new year to you as well!

Forest City Cemetery Memorial 119318055
Hi name is Wendy and I am a Find A Grave Member too. I have a question I was hoping you could help me with. I set up a Memorial for Michael Wyllie in the Forest City Cemetery. A fellow researcher pointed out that there are 3 cemeteries in that area. 2 of them being Forest City Cemetery and Mountain House Cemetery. He had been thru both and said the photo you have as Forest City Cemetery is actually Mountain House Pioneer Cemetery. I am really confused at this point..can you help? Thank you in advance for your time. Sincerely, Wendy

RE: Josephine Mine Cemetery Volcanoville
Hi Melanie,

I was a co-founder of the El Dorado County Pioneer Cemeteries Commission (non-profit org) in 1996. We began studies of all the cemeteries in El Dorado County that we could document exist or once existed. The second cemetery you mention is actual the Mount Gregory Cemetery, although Mildred Davis of Georgetown did a listing calling it the Volcanoville Cemetery #1. We have photographed the cemetery and identified additional probable or possible burials that might exist in addition to the three graves that were marked, only two of which are still marked. If you would like further information, please contact me direct at my email address listed on my contributor page. There are some things I'd rather not post publicly. Thanks for the permission to use your photo. I don't think I'll need a higher resolution for now. Best regards, Sue

William Ogle, Volcanoville, El Dorado County, CA
Hello Melanie,

Thanks for posting the photo of William Ogle's gravestone. I would like permission to use your photo in a research study I'm doing on the burials in what they are now calling the Josephine Mine Cemetery but which is the original cemetery of the town of Volcanoville. I have obtained photos of the other gravestones, but I've not been able to locate my old photos of what was there when I visited in 1998. Thanks for any courtesy you may offer. Sue

Forest City Cemetery
Hi, I was wondering if you could give me directions to Forest City Cemetery in Sierra County. My great grandfather is buried there and I was wondering if it is hard to get to. I live in Verdi, Nv. very close to the Sierra County border.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.
