I have been doing genealogical research since 1984. I retired from the Air Force in 1994. I recently got my Researcher ID Card for Maine Vital Records. I am a member of the Maine Old Cemeteries Association, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, and the Buckfield Historical Society. I am also Historian and Past Commander of John D. Long Post #58, American Legion, Buckfield, Maine. I am a son of Donald Mackay Cooper and Ruth Marcelyn Hersey.|
RETURN OF THE ARCHONS
Lately I have been having difficulty keeping up with edits on findagrave. I have never been a great typist, but I used to be able to type more than ONE WORD PER MINUTE! Like everyone else, I am only human and can make mistakes... but I have caught several edits from novices trying to change correct information to incorrect information. If we don't catch it within 21 days... it gets Accepted automatically. It would be nice if findagrave could add a category for edits "Edits that have been sent to me that were AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED"

understand - thanks for the come back
|Jan Warren||John & Mary Nason's son|
Instead of overwhelming you with an edit, I thought I'd try this: My ancestor, James Nason (findagrave #111717002) was a son of John and Mary Nason.
I have several sources for this including "A Genealogy of the Nye Family" compiled by R. Glen Nye in 1967
His wife was Elver Madora Nye #111717001
Their daughters were:
Lottie Goodwin #16340142
Ada Nason Weymouth #111717880
Eloda Nason Ingraham #111717879
Hope that helps!
If you'd like me to add this as an edit, I'd be happy to.

"Edits that have been sent to me that were AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED"
Good idea. Can you start a campaign through "friends"?
|Deana B.||RE: Jeremiah Getchell rom Durham, Maine|
Tim, Thanks! They're definitely different Jeremiahs, very interesting. Mine is also in the 1850 and 1860 census, ages 5 and 14 respectively, in Marshfield. I wonder where the two trees link up (I'm sure they do, somewhere...)
My tree is public, but there are so many trees, not so easy to find. Wasn't easy to find yours, even! Since I found you there, I'm about to send you a note there so you can check out what I've found on my Jeremiah.

|Deana B.||Jeremiah Getchell|
The information I found on ancestry.com has the following:
U.S. Veterans Gravesites, ca.1775-2006
Name Jeremiah Getchell
Service Info. PVT US Army
Death Date 14 Jun 1864
Interment Date 14 Jun 1864
Cemetery Address Cemetery: Alexandria National Cemetery, VA
Buried At Section A Site 816-75
This "Section A site 816-75" matches what is on this memorial.
This death date matches a Jeremiah S. Getchell from my family tree born in 1845 son of James A. Getchell and Sarah (Bowker) Getchell, which the death certificate also shows parentage. He died during the civil war before he was 20. I haven't been able to find James and Sarah on find-a-grave yet in order to link them.
I am guessing that there must be a different Jeremiah Getchell who is the father of Charles and Edwina.

|Grace & Tim||Melville Ira McKinney vs Matthias Vickery McKenney|
I was led astray by the Adjutant General's report that combined Matthias Vickery McKenney's birth and death information with Melville Ira McKenney's service and burial information.
I researched him yesterday in census and vital records on ancestry.com with my "Findagrave Research" family "tree".
This morning I searched the "Headstones Provided for Deceased Union Civil War Veterans" database on ancestry.com and found him. He was not indexed. I have added a scan of the un-indexed record to his memorial.

Hi Tim and Grace!
First I'd like to give you a BIG Thank you for all you have done! I have a lot of ancestors from Maine and you two have traveled the whole state taking pictures. You guys are awesome!
I was wondering if you would connect Achsah (Beals) Packard (# 69582368) with her parents. They are:
Benjamin Beals #19444104
Molly (Noyes) Beals # 174911898
She was born 18 May 1794 in Poland and is the twin to my gggg-grandmother, Sophia (Beals) True. (If you want to transfer her to me, that is fine too)
Again, Thanks for all you do!
