Lucy Emma Lumpkin Reid #13628446
Richland Presbyterian Cnurch.

Lucy Emma Lumpkin's FIRST husband was Alexander L. Hunt
1889 Married her first husband (Alexander L. Hunt) when she was 14. He died 3 weeks later.

1889 Keowee Courier, Aug 1. 1889, pg 3 col A: "Married, on Sunday evening, July 28th 1889, at the residence of Mr. Thomas Lumpkin, the bride's father, by J.D. Land, Esq., Trial Justice, Mr. A. L. Hunt and Miss Lucy Lumpkin, all of Oconee Co."

1889 Keowee Courier, Aug 1. 1889, pg 3 col C: "Our postmaster, A. L. Hunt is the happy man now. He was married last sunday afternoon to Miss Lucy Lumpkin, second daughter of Mr. Thomas Lumpkin."

1889 Keowee Courier 28 Aug 1889, pg 3, Column D:
Alexander L. Hunt, recently appointed postmaster at this place died this morning, after a short illness. He was a young man of steady habits and had gained the respect of All with whom he came in contact. He leaves a young wife of fourteen, to whome he had been married only three weeks.

She married second Charles Sloan Thomas in Mar 1892: He was the father of all of her children. She is buried beside him. My grandfather, Thomas Sloan Thomas was the 2nd son of this marriage. In the census record of 1910 he is shown as Teay Thomas age 15. He is missing from this record.

George T. Reid was her 3rd husband and she had no children from this marriage:
8 May 1919 Affidavit to Obtain Marriage License #2192, Marriage License, Certificate: George T. Reid of Calhoun SC aged 48 married Mrs. Lucy Thomas of Seneca SC aged 45 on 8 May 1919.
21 May 1919, Keowee Courier, pg 8, col C:
--Seneca Farm and Factory of last Thurday contained this item of news that will prove of interest to many friends in the county of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. T. Reid: At the residence of J.O.Brock, on thursday morning, Rev I.E.Wallace performed the ceremony which made Mrs Thomas who resides near Adams’ Crossing, and George Reid, of Calhoun, man and wife. Mr. and Mrs Reid will make their home in this county”. Mr Reid was in The Courier office a few days after the happy even had taken place, but never so much indicated to us that he was but so recently married. He mentioned his large family - 17 children - and stated that this happy gathering comprised “two sets” of children, but that was all. Even at this late day, however, we cannot refrain from extending to our good friend and his better half, the very best of our good wishes for continued prosperity, long life, and the best of success.
Member of the Friendship Methodist Church, Seneca, S.C.

Can you please edit the record to reflect the above......it is very confusing set of marriages and children. Thank you

Malinda Pate
Malinda was very young when she married Mr. Pate
about 35 years her senior, so lets change the page to read as the tombstone does since we have no documentation for the Pope name.

Thanks
Mary

Grave of Malinda Pate in Alabama
I am confused by this entry.

The Tombstone says Malinda Stewart Pate but at the top you have Malinda Pope Pate.

Can you clarify for me? Is her maiden name Pope and Stewart is another married name ?

Thanks for your advice.
