I lived in Texas until the death of my husband in Jan 2013.

I was born in Oregon just before WW II ended the daughter of Ray Culbertson Patch and Mary Elizabeth Cragle, but grew up in Iowa where my father was born and raised; and where I met and married my military husband.

My husband and I lived in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Georgia, Germany, Colorado, Louisiana, Italy, Arizona and now Texas for the last 25 years.

I do my research on-line.

I am the mother of four and grandmother of six.

Two of my children were born in Heidelberg, Germany near where some of their ancestors lived - discovered years later when I was researching.

One daughter was born in Piza, Italy and the last in Texas to become a 7th generation Texan.

My husband's main lines are Lanum, Nall, Schroegler, and Short..

Mine are Andreas, Cragle, Culbertson, Hawkins, Mull, Patch, Toothaker, Washburn and others too numerous to mention.

My line goes back through my mother to the Mayflower and royalty in England and France.

I tried to get my daughter-in-law to genuflect whenever I entered or left a room. All I got from the effort was laughter and a headache.

I mention this so you know I don't take myself too seriously.

The genealogical world is shrinking everyday.

A few years ago my son visited us arriving from Maine with his wife, children and a guest who was a schoolmate of his son. When our guest left it was as a 9th cousin to my grandson. My youngest daughter returned with her brother to the small town in Maine (pop abt 1500). She was there about 18 months and acquired a job at the local quick-mart. The owner turned out to be a distant cousin connecting to one of our Mayflower ancestors. So that was two families - not related to each other - related to my daughter, son, grandchildren and myself in that small town in Maine. What are the odds?
