Hi Jan

Sarah is my 3rd great-grandmother and I was curious about the photo of her tombstone. I have that she passed away on April 12 1893, but note that you have it as a different date. This tombstone definitely has aged with time an I know that the photo is pretty unreadable. By any chance have you been to the cemetery and done an actual reading?

Also I sent you a message her maiden name was Sarah Gifford. There is conflicting information as to whether her middle name was Jane or Lucy.

If you have any additional information could you please email me at

RE: Nebo
I found the marker Memorial Day 2016. It was in front of a headstone. I couldn't read the headstone for weeds and poison ivy. There used to be a church out near the road, it was taken down sometime in the late 60' or early 70's. Passed it everyday on the school bus. I also visited this cemetery frequently as a kid since I lived in Grisemore, not much to do out there in the country. The farm beside it was a Williams and the next farm towards Grisemore was also a Williams farm. There was also a farm on Grisemore road towards Alverda that belonged to a Smith, who was married to a Griffith.

I and others are also thinking there are more graves in this cemetery. I believe the headstones were moved back but can't remember the reason why. Maybe to widen the road.

W. W. Vanleer
Am wondering if your W. W. Vanleer is the brother of my Great Grandfather, Joseph C. Vanleer. The death date you on his memorial is the same. If you would like to check, I have put him on, his Find A Grave Mem. # is 122029963. I rec'd the information from the Marion Center Memorial Cemetery.

Another Cemetery?
What's the scoop on the your other cemetery? How exciting! Or is this the Douglass cemetery you mentioned before? Any names on those two you did find?
Hope your snow melts soon!

RE: Fisanich
Thank you for writing back! I do know about the family. I visited a few years ago when they held the 100 year anniversary of the Church. I met with several grandson's of Helena/Elena/Olena. These relatives I found them they were the lost tribe of our family. Before WW1 4 brothers (could be even one more) and one sister Anna, they all went to Barnsboro. I have all of their passenger lists The original surname Feshanych, his is my mothers family. They came from a village called Chysthorb(Czystohorb) which is now in Poland. They were part of the immigration to make money working in the mines etc....caame from oppressed lands......Ukrainians Greek Catholic from this area referred to as Lemko land/Lemkivschyna...I have done much research and have traveled to the ancestral lands. Huge family tree. Later when Helena's husband Hryc (Gregory) died back in Chysthorb about 1911 she ended up going to her children. On the passenger list is shows she is travelling with a child...Helena her maiden name was Chomko but in the archive office in Poland they can not find the marriage records..........The grandsons that are still alive, I am in contact with George Fisanich and was also was in contact with =Basil and his wife Rita.who still live in the area as far as I know.....they spell he name Fisanick....I had gone to the church in Spangler but the records were difficult to read. I do read Cyrillic but did hot have enough time to decipher all. I would love to get photos of the pages for the early years I hope they are not destroyed....I hope the records will be put in a safe place..... Perhaps Helena is listed there, too. If there is a way to get anything from those records it is like gold...No one seems to know anything or how to read these records.....So it is only information about Helen that I need specific. Where did she live? Did she remarry in Barnsboro? how did she die? Basically what was she doing while she was in Barnsboro area?
