This set a example and Grave Law in all America!

His first bill he submitted, sponsored, and was passed was the Virginia Cemetery Bill, which forbade any destruction and/or plowing them under of them!

He alone saved the Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) from being becoming extinct when he was Chairman of Virginian Wildlife. Yes this is the Bird which the Country TURKEY attained that name. Tom, hen , and poults all.
Benjamin Franklin wanted this as our national Bird.

Backer
Hi, you left a message on Arthur Backers memorial, I'm curious if Laura V Backer 1907 to 1964 was their daughter. I was very close to their daughter Katherine Backer Bouquio but can't recall if she told me about Laura. My hub doesn't know either. Katherine was his grandmother. Any help would be appreciated

Dear Mr. DeMallie, Thank you for you very nice note. I am happy to have made a new friend!
Re: Catharine Dewey, sorry to say I have never heard of her. I went to high school with a girl whose surname was Dewey, but I doubt that there is any connection because her grandfather (I believe it was) was from the south, I think it was North Carolina.
Continued good luck with your research. If I ever have something new to share, I will contact you. Jane

I saw the note you left on the memorial for Matthew Dill. I just wanted to let you know that page is a duplicate memorial . The correct page with the correct burial information is #15067023. I am trying to get the rest of the family linked to this page. Thanks, Nicole (a Dill descendant)

John Harvey 1730-1804
Hi! My name is James Harvey. I have been working on my family history for a few months now, and the John Harvey listed as the subject is as far back as I can go. The Burke side of the family goes way back, and is quite fascinating! However, I've run into a dead end with John. Do you have anything further back than him? I would much appreciate any tips or outright help in going further back! Thank you in advance! James Harvey cedarock@ymail.com

RE: TNX
Thanks, Jonathan. That is very interesting...I had already determined that 1885/1886 is when our house was built. (There are no listings for our street in the 1885 city directory and 3 listings, including Abram De Mallie in the 1886 City Directory.) Are those records online or did you have to request them?

Don't know who Catherine Dewey is. She is not one of the 3 names listed as residing on Harlem St in 1886, nor one of the many more who were listed as residing there by 1888.

We have been trying to get the gravestones of Abraham De Mallie and his two wives at Mt Hope Cemetery righted...We've put in a couple requests and they tell us encouraging things, but it has yet to happen.

Cheers,
Joel

RE: TNX
Hello, Jonathan! Thank you for getting back with me so quickly. I had messaged Carl weeks ago and he said you were the creator of the information. No worries. I will see if I can update the information myself.

Yes, Ruth S. DeMallie was my maternal grandmother. My mother, Laura, often spoke of her twin cousins, Bobby and .... I've forgotten the other's name. Mom was named after their mother, Laura DeMallie. I guess Ruth did not like that (who knows why!) so Mom was nicknamed Jean as her middle name was Imogene.

Have a great summer, Jon.

Best regards,
Beth

Hi, Jonathan! I am Laura's younger daughter. I have some info for you to update her record. There are some incorrect facts in her background. I think we must be distant cousins. I live in Webster. Would love a chance to share some info. Please message me back. Thanks and have a great summer!

Our Mutual Kin
Missed your message from last year! Found it this morning! Yes, I believe we do share Virginia kin. We have lots of Stratton Hills and even a Stratton Mountain here in Vermont. I find it interesting that some of the Strattons migrated to Virginia. However, no Strattons in my family tree but lots of Tuckahoes from Albemarle and adjoining Nelson County. I am kin to the Gianninys and the Bowlings and many others from the area, Seay, Loving, Coleman, Mitchell et al. It seems we share Harvey kin. My grandmother was Sarah Harvey, spouse of Leroy Mitchell who was an overseer on a Nelson Plantation. All the best to you. Red Rose
