Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in sunny South Carolina and do family history research in my free time. My own family names include Agnew/Bybee/Easum/Reid/ Owens/Plantenga/
as well as my husband's:

My roots are in southern Indiana, & from there link to NC, TN, southern Ohio, VA and KY (as well as Holland).

Cemetaries are places to learn stories of our family's past. I enjoy preserving what is there before it disappears.

RE: James & Mary Agnew in Cincinnati
Your welcome. The stone also had Sarah on it. Two sides are not the best photos because of light and the age of the stone. If it get back there during the morning, I will see about getting a better photo.

Pvt. J . Compton
I realize now that this J. Compton died a Newberry's Wayside Hospital, in April 13, 1865. I would like to be sure that it was Jesse and not John who was buried in Newberry Village Cemetery.
I don't believe Jesse was ever at Rock Island Prison Barracks,IL as it was my g grandfather, Sgt. James M. Compton that was confined to Rock Island for about 20 months.

Can you put me in touch with someone in the Newberry Historical and Museum Society that might be able to help me with the original records recorded for Pvt. J. Compton, died April 13, 1865 at Wayside Hospital, Newberry, S.C. ?
I would appreciate your help very much.

Jesse Compton #64559914
I am wondering if this J. Compton could have been John F. Compton, the brother of my g grandfather, Sgt. James McCain Compton, also with Co. B, 25th AL Infantry. My grandfather James was also captured at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, received at Louisville, Ky. from Nashville, Tenn., forwarded from Louisville Dec. 8, 1863 to Rock Island Barracks Ill.,and entered Rock Island Prison, Dec.11, 1863. Sft. James M.Compton was confined at Rock Island (prison) until May 3, 1865 and was sent to New Orleans and arrived New Orleans May 26, 1865 and paroled at Shreveport, La., June 7, 1885.

He and his brother John were both born in Montgomery, AL and joined the CSA and then re-enlisted. After re-enlisting both my g grandfather, James M. Compton, and my grandfather's brother, John Comtpton, were in Co B 25th Reg't Alabama Infantry. John's records show he was wounded 20 Sept. 1863 in the Battle of Chickamauga and sent to hospital.
(John F Compton was first in Co. E 6 Alabama Infantry and when he relisted after a year he was in Co B 25th AL Infantry Regiment. )

I have no more Condederate records for John Compton after Sept 20, 1863....We do not know what happened to him. He and his brother James had a cousin Jesse Compton from Crenshaw/Pike County AL that was also said to have been in Co B 25th AL Infantry Regiment. Could their records had gotten mixed up? Do you think John could have died in Rock Island Prison instead of Jesse?
I will appreicate any help you can give me regarding this manner. If you have no idea, perhaps you might know who could help me.

Hi Cousin,
Jordan Owen 1793-1875 was my paternal Great-Great-Great Grandfather and his father was Bernard Barnett Owen 1768-1847. I have never heard "my" Jordan Owen being named Solomon, but it's been my experience that many of my ancestors on all sides often went by their middle name, so I'm guessing we may have a common ancestor, and/or are probably distantly related. Your Solomon Jordan Owen may be one and the same as
"my" Jordan Owen.

Many of my Owen Ancestors came from Lunenburg Co. and Bedford Co., VA then to KY, most settled in Green, Barren, Hart, Metcalfe and surrounding counties of KY. I live in Bedford, Lawrence County, IN and would like to hear from you.

Hi, Carol--I think I see what's happening. The inscription on the stone reads "26 years 5 months & 13 days," (January 21) not "3 days" (February 1).

Hi, Carol--I went to this website to do Isaac's birth date calculation:
Unfortunately, I do not have additional information on Mary or Isaac.

RE: Lindler-Eargle
Carol, the thing to do is delete your duplicate memorials, since the ones created first take precedence. Then send an email to and ask them to delete the duplicate cemetery. There are only your four listed there, and they all already exist in the original cemetery listing. Hope this helps. -- Nancy
