"WE ARE THE CHOSEN"
We are the chosen. In each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again. To tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes.
Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story.
FREE~~~~I have all the Genealogy books for Wapello County Iowa that are in print. Look ups include births, marriages, death, ,cemetery records as well as Johnson funeral home records and naturalization records and St. Marys Catholic church records for Ottumwa, Iowa.
Also obits from the Ottumwa Courier 1932~1987.
"You Can Always Tell Where A Beautiful Soul Has Been By The Tears And The Smiles Left Behind"
My Lanigan ancestors came to America during the Great Potato Famine of Ireland. Their first child Sarah was born in New York in 1847. Her father John Lanigan and her uncle James Lanigan helped to build the first railroad into Fairfield, Iowa. (name spelled Larrigan in 1860 census) Both signed up for the Civil War in Jefferson County Iowa at Lockridge, Iowa. Both were Catholic. They both settled in Ottumwa, Iowa and that is when my grandpa James Aloysious Lanigan was born in 1860.He married Anna Phillips at the old St. Patricks church at Ottumwa on the South side.

I came across one of your transfers. Receiving a transfer can make a big difference or help in healing a broken heart. Thank you for your kindness in helping others out on this site.
|Cindy Lovell & Steve Hols||James Foster|
I goofed up on the write up for James Foster.
It should be (From the Eddyville Tribune, Eddyville, Iowa, Friday , October 29th , 1897)
Sorry about that.
|Laura Hawkins||Alfred Leason|
Yes, you were kind enought to transfer my 2xGrest-grandfather to me. Thank you.
Can you check and see if two people are laid to rest in McIntire?
Elizabeth Leason Hawkins - I think she is but the news story I have of her death does not give the funeral information. Her date of death is 4 Oct 1909. She is the daughter od Alfred & Celinda Leason. Thank you
|Laura Hawkins||Alfred Leason|
Yes I do, Celinda's husband, Alfred Clinton Leason passed away 29 May 1901 in Ottumwa.

Thank you for the transfer. Yes, I found her DC on FS too. I just wish I could find her husband's and her parent's. Cheers, Laura
|Vonderene||14769827 - Ann Strain|
Ann Hodson was born in Pennsylvania in 1832 the daughter of Ann nee Lister and her husband William Hodson. She married James Strain on 18 Feb 1852 in La Porte, Indiana. The detail regarding a Jane Strain that is attached to the above memorial would not appear to agree with this. Could you please check these details ?
|luvbreck||Francis Marion Stocker|
I recently created a page for my grandmother Lucy Shonkwiler and added to your memorial. Having noticed someone had already created a page for her I deleted it from your page. The other memorial is simply listed as Marion Stocker son of Hiram Stocker. This person is my grandfather and is the same person.
