Elsie Goodman Brown items
Hello, Joyce, Thanks for all your hard work.

Elsie is the daughter of Betty Elizabeth Tracy, who we discussed recently, and John Wesley Goodman.

Elsie, born Martha L. was born in 1898 in Perry County. Brown is her 2nd husband. Mary Brown was her daughter.

I have a lot more if you ever get time to view it.

Joe Eston Cooper

Joe E. Cooper passed away on Monday, June 5 in Nashville following a long illness. He was 95 years old.

Before his death Mr. Cooper was the oldest member of Gibson Baptist Church. He was a deacon, and served as
church treasurer for many years. Mr. Cooper also served several terms as alderman of the Town of Gibson.

He also was known as scoutmaster of Gibson’s Troop 58 for several years.

Mr. Cooper worked briefly at Milan Army Ammunition plant, but later worked for many years, and retired from
J. Hungerford Smith Company in Humboldt.

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Frank and Maureen Cooper, his wife Annie Virginia
Womack Cooper, his sisters Willeace Cooper, Frances Cooper Robertson, and his brother Billy Cooper. He is
survived by his sister Dorothy Mae Cooper England of Augusta, GA, his sons Joe W. (Mack) Cooper (Ballwin, MO)
Robert L. (Bob) Cooper (Nashville), Ted E. Cooper (Broken Arrow, OK), and his daughter, Catherine (Kay) Cooper
Maness (Lexington, TN).

He is also survived by his eight (8) grandchildren Angela Wohlgemuth Dail, Henry Cooper, Betsy Cooper, Lara
Cooper Caldwell, Matthew Cooper, Cathy Cooper, Jessica Maness Yeater, and Vaughn (Mackie) Maness III.
He also is survived by two (2) great‐grandchildren: Alton (Fisher) Dail III and Morgan Marie Dail.

Mr. Cooper moved with his family in 1924 from the Dry Creek community in DeKalb County, TN in a horse drawn
wagon with his mother and father, and older sisters to a homestead located on the Gibson‐Trenton road (TN
186 North) near the Sanders Store community.

He was a graduate of the old Gibson High School Class of 1940/41, and was attending the University of
Tennessee, Martin Branch studying agriculture as a freshman when Pearl Harbor was bombed.

In 1942 Mr. Cooper joined the Army Air Corps with assignments in Smyrna, TN; Denver, CO; Ft. Myers, FL;
Lincoln, NB; and his final assignment in Las Vegas, NV as the war ended in 1945. He attained the rank of staff
sergeant, and was trained as a B‐29 gunner.

In 1946 he married Annie Virginia Womack, his wife for 62 years, in Nashville, TN. After their marriage the
couple moved to Gibson, TN where they had 4 children, and a long life together.

At the church “Miss Virginia” was known particularly for her alter flower arrangements, and “Mr. Joe” was
known for growing those flowers, and the excellent garden produce he grew each year, especially his tomatoes.
Mrs. Cooper passed away in 2008, but he stayed on with his gardening in Gibson until his 90th birthday in 2012
at which time he moved to assisted living in Nashville.

Mr. Cooper's funeral will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 10am at the Gibson Baptist Church with burial to follow in the White Rose Cemetery in Gibson.

Betty Tracey/Tracy
Sorry about all the typos in the preceding message. (Too many ads loading on this site diminishes its usefulness for contributors.)

Just checked Betty's dc, it listed 1869 as the birth year, so, that year was transposed for the tombstone.

Thanks, Joyce Ken Burress

Bettie Tracey
Hello, Joyce. Thanks for all your hard work. Bettie Tracey/Tracy is my wife's grandmother. The tombstone has her birth year as 1896, but her first child was born in that year.
1880 Census, taken just before Bettie's birthday, has her at 9 years of age, so she would have turned 10 in 1880, if they her age correct. 1910 census, also take before her birthday, had her age at 28, so she would have turned 29. So Bettie (Eunice Elizabeth Tracy) was born 1870 to 1873, best we can figure. Thanks Ken Burress

Robert Tyree, Sr
Hello Joyce!
I know you manage over 10,000 memorials and I truly appreciate all you work at the Oakland Cemetery in Trenton, TN where many of my ancestors are buried. I have sent several edit requests and just wanted to know that you are working on all others ahead of mine and will review in the near future. If you are not related I kindly request that you could transfer to me even though that is outside of the Find A Grave rules for direct descendants only. Thank you again for being an awesome asset to FindAGrave!
