CATHOLIC MOUNT AUBURN - UPDATE 6-19-2016
145 Civil War Veterans found, although there may be many more due to common names and occupation noted as "Laborer"
Completed adding available newspaper information for cause of death: 26 homicide, 698 accidents and 23 suicides.
Many burials at Catholic Mount Auburn are misidentified on the City/Town death records as being buried at other cemeteries. All area cemeteries are mentioned. The Mount Auburn Cemetery (noted at Cambridge) is incorrectly noted many times.
1854 - December 31, 1920 Edited using death certificates. Online death records end at 1920.
MISSING RECORDS: I HAVE VERFIED WITH THE CATHOLIC CEMETERY ASSOCIATION AND SEEN FOR MYSELF THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THEM.
I ADDED BURIALS BY A REVIEW OF THE DEATH RECORDS OF BOSTON, CAMBRIDGE, SOMERVILLE, WATERTOWN, BELMONT, CHELSEA. --
June 1, 1882 - December 31, 1884 (Somerville & Chelsea records did not list a city or cemetery of burial and could not be added for that period.
Jan 1 1910 - June 30, 1911
September - October 1916
January - April 1920

CATHOLIC MOUNT AUBURN CEM...

I am researching my surname, Smith. Your association with Find A Grave and Catholic Mount Auburn Cemetery led me to contact you.
My gg grandfather is James H. Smith (Memorial ID 67591641) at Common Street Cemetery. There are birth and death records to support him as my relative. However, the trail goes cold.
His parents are recorded as James Smith and Mary Smith. I believe they could be buried at Catholic Mount Auburn Cemetery.
My search has located James Smith (Memorial ID 98276214 ) on Plot LOT 57, ROW 3 EAST and two Mary Smith's on the same plot. Mary Smith (Memorial ID 102287098) and Mary Hoye Smith (Memorial ID 96347776).
Can you explain how the plots are laid-out? I find it odd that two Mary Smith's are buried that close to each other and to James Smith. Also, If you could point me towards any other documentation for the persons above, I would be grateful.
Any information you could provide concerning these graves would be appreciated. And thank you for your valuable contributions to Find A Grave and the local cemeteries.

I submitted a 55 memorial spreadsheet yesterday (sunday) I waited until 1 hour ago until it was accepted. That was a long time for me. It usually gets done same day time frame. 1400 records should not matter. Have you tried asking on the forum?
Mark is the adminstrator for the Cemetery issues and does a terrific job helping me in the past. I agree 2 weeks is a long time... and an Updated map would be useful.

I’m not a relative of Honora Heanue, but I’m doing research for a friend who is a DNA match to the Heanue’s in Cambridge, MA. I think – assuming I can track down all the pieces of the paper trail – she is likely a 1st cousin 3x removed of Honora’s husband John through John’s uncle Geoffery Heanue.
Where are you in the Heanue tree?
Take care - and thanks for the updates -

I am a descendant of Robert & Ellen (Bowe) O'Brien/Brine. Please add me as the manager of the graves of Ellen O'Brien/Brine & her daughter, Susanna (Brine) Triggs. We are still looking for the grave of Ellen's husband, Robert. Have you seen her tomb stone? I can't believe that his name is not on it. Is it possible to get permission to visit the cemetery & look for myself? I am in New Hampshire for the summer & often visit Massachusetts.

Hi Bill. Alice and Rose were certainly not veterans. I do not believe that Peter was either. Alice was my father's mother's sister so I did personally know all of these people.

HAPPY FRIDAY !!!
First, thank you for serving and for your excellent work in honoring our Veterans.
( class of '68. S/E Asia ).
We are three people searching through the cemetery records, etc for Veterans. Recently, we expanded into photographing all of the stones.
Because of the immense work involved, we are looking for volunteers who could help out in many ways. Researching, typing, photographing and eventually physically locating the interred VeTs. If you are any like minded people out there would like to help, please contact me.
By the way. In 2010, there were 450 identified Vets. Today, +/- 850. On paper, 1400 ! in a 26 acre cemetery.
|Jeff Hall||RE: Thank you|
Hi Bill, congratulations on your worthy project, and good luck in completing it. That is quite an undertaking, thanks for honoring our veterans.

Bill, Thanks for beautiful photos & plot edit for location of John O'Donovan's gravesite. I have added his parents & put in a photo request for his parents. Would you please add these photos on their memorials. Thanks so much & happy 4th, Richard.
