Hi Jeff , I imagine that he was figuring that because my GG Grandparents helped create the Odom community and I have the original documents that my Grandfather handed down to me , showing that all of that land plus much much more was ranted to Juan P Boden by President Sam Houston dated 1836, it's on parchment paper , bound in leather and it shows where everyone bought acres at a time , going up to the point that my Great great Grandparents John Henry Lewis and Ann Elizabeth Odom bought a lot of the acreage , my great Grandmother ( their daughter) Albert James Hall Mary Catherine Lewis Hall My home place is on FM 3080 , my Grandfather was born there as was my Dad , after my his Father passed away , my Grandfather bought all of the land , 126 acres. The cemetery sits on the JP Boden survey. My ex husband and I had land , and lived on VZ CR 2815 , the road right before the road the cemetery is on. As for the cemetery upkeep , I finally got in touch with a guy that is the director of the funeral home in Canton , and he & my son grew up together , he knew who for me to contact but we did talk about who would do the upkeep if something should happen to him, there's also a man that lives on the place next my home place , his Dad is buried there , his Mom is still living, anyway , I'm going to talk to him about maybe helping the guy in the mobile home across from the cemetery...turns out that his daughter grew up with my son too. I'm going to call him today and ask what he would charge me to paint the fence and gate. I'm so thankful that I was able to get some info on him , his parents used to take care of it ...I was told that his wife had been very ill but is doing better now.
Thanks for staying in touch with me , and caring about the cemetery. I need to find out what I can do to have a historical marker put out there . Do you know anything about that process ?

Thank you for the quick reply Jeff . I added all of my families names and pictures of their headstones. And you are right , it has always been the people in the trailer house across the road. I was there in June and the woman was outside but didn't attempt to make contact with me then this last weekend , it didn't appear anyone was home. One time when I went to visit my sister's grave , a man came from over there , with a notebook , asking who I was coming to visit and when I told him , he asked me if I knew that my ancestors had donated that land and I said yes....we talked about my plans to be cremated and buried there and he asked if I wanted to be buried next to my sister or in the grave with my sister and I said in with her. My Mother is also buried there but doesn't have a grave marker , she is next to my sister. I reached out to the funeral home , who bought out the Eubank's and a man called me. I told him that my Grandfather was good friends with Mr. hennery Eubank , my Dad was friends with his son , Bob and my sister and I grew up with his kids. And my great great Grandfather and his brother both married Odom girls . Anyway , the man who called me from the funeral home told me that he would have J,D, Jennings call me ....he and my son grew up together , so he knows me...he said that since J.D. is from the area and familiar with things that perhaps he can help me find family members of some of the people buried there , that's going to be hard to do since most of them will no longer be alive. I do know a couple of them that may have family still alive , so hoping we can get enough people to start going out there and mowing , weed eating etc. plus the gate and fence needs to be painted , which that can be a group effort. I personally would like to see the gate have a lock on it and only family members have a key , like they do at Goshen. It was heartbreaking to see it in the terrible condition that it was , that's my family , my ancestors. I am a member of the United daughter's of the Confederacy and at out next meeting , I'm going to ask about having a historical marker put there. Once again , thank you for you reply and I sure wish the cemetery still looked like it did in the picture .

Hello Jeff ,

My name is Katherine HALL Gabel...some of the information you have on the bio of the cemetery is not correct. My gg Grandfather's gravestone is there , John Henry Lewis , born 1842 died 1918. and he was a Confederate soldier , his wife was Ann Elizabeth Odom and their daughter was my great Grandmother Mary Catherine Lewis Hall , whom I am named after. Our home place was on FM 3080 , right there by the cemetery.
Randol Odom is also buried there , born in 1804 , died in 1885 , wife ( 2nd) was Armelia Odom born in 1841 died in 1894.My Grandparents are also buried there , with her twin sister and husband next to them , MY sister is buried at the foot of my Grandparents graves. There are A LOT of old graves in that cemetery that have not been recognized. I was down there over the weekend and the cemetery has not been cared for in a long time . I'm working on finding people to mow and weed eat it but I don't live down there even though I will be buried there with my family and ancestors.

I think your photo belongs to another cemetery or possibly another entrance. The photo above yours added by James Ellis is correct.
Thanks.
