I enjoy taking and posting photos.

Cemetery walking involves planning, time, gas, bees, flies, gnats, ticks, assorted other bugs, dogs, burrs, briars, weeds, tall grass, snakes, scrapes, cuts, mud, dirt, snow, rain, dust, wind, sun, rutted roads, hills and dales, getting lost, and BUCKETS of sweat.

I had to throw my lunch to a couple wild peacocks headed my way. Seems they have a fondness for egg salad.

I appreciate those folks who list their source when posting my photos to Ancestry.com :)

Debra, I hope that this little message finds you and your mother doing well. Hey, lets all get together on Soldiers Hill in Springdale sometime. Let me know if you know you're going to have some time some Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Hey I got this little email in December. Though of you immediately. Sorry it took me so long to pass it on to you.
"Mr. Fite,
Earlier today I was doing some winter 'reorganization' of old files and ran across the March 8, 1998 PJS article 'Remembering the 86th'. I am not a historian by any sense of the world but do have great interest in the Civil War. Many, many decades past when I was about 10 years of age and spending some time during the summer recovering from an operation, my mother bought me a copy a 'Andersonville' by McKinley Cantor. I became somewhat hooked. I have since spent some time in the south and lived in Chattanooga for a few years.
Several year ago I acquired 89 letters written by Joseph Anno from 08/21/1861 to 07/06/1864 to his wife in Manito, Il. Also is an original April 15, 1865 copy of the New York Herald referencing Lincoln's death. Anno was a member if the Illinois 85th that I believe was shoulder to shoulder with the 86th.
Joseph Anno enlisted with two of his brothers. Anno's last letter to his wife was on 07/06/1984 and stated 'Rebs were 28 steps away--we can see the steeples in Atlanta--armies on both sides of the river--artillery booming all around---built strong breastworks'.
He was killed on July 19th. His brother Nelson Anno wrote 'John laid on the battlefield 24 hours before they could reach him'.
If you have any interest in reviewing these letters, you are more than welcome to do so.

Let me know if you go see them and what you learn. Perhaps we can "all" get together in Springdale. Take care!! Baxter

Thank you! I will include this information in the memorial. I was never able to find her relationship to the Warner family - apparently a relative of Hester Gordon, wife of John Warner - possibly Hester's mother.

John Marion Robertson, Co. G, 85th Illinois
Debra,

I just ran across your page and thank you for all the work you have done.

My great-great grandfather was 1st Lt John Marion Robertson of Co.G, 85th Illinois.

I have studied his genealogy since the 1970's and have quite a bit of material on the 85th.

I have a tintype photo of Company G and would like to send you a copy for your page. It may be the only photo of the Company that still exists.

Please contact me and I would be happy to send it.

Take care,

Mike Robertson
