Obituary for Pvt. John H. Hockenbury

John Henry Hockenbury, age 26 years, died at 3:05 o’clock yesterday afternoon at his home on Skillmans Avenue, Hampton, after an illness for over a year of complications. The deceased moved to Hampton from Jersey City, just one year ago this month, thinking the change of climate would benefit his health. He has practically been confined to his bed ever since he went to Hampton. He served in the World War and was in active service. His sickness was caused from being gassed while at war.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Robinson Hockenbury, and two children, Louise, aged 5 years, and a son, John Jr., aged 3 years; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Redman, of Hampton, and one brother, Joseph Hockenbury, of Elizabeth.

Funeral Services will be conducted from the Asbury Methodist church, Sunday afternoon, at 8 o’clock, eastern standard time, with burial in the Asbury Methodist cemetery.

Appeared in Easton Express, Easton, PA on 6/24/1926, page 9.

Thanks,
Karen Lindley (karenvl@yahoo.com)

The Diehls
Hi Michael, you have posted the memorials for several Diehl members in Union Cemetery. I am researching this family and wonder if you are a relative of them, too. If not, good job in connecting them together and making the pictures for us to see.

Will you give me permission to copy your photo to my Great Uncles memorial. I have been looking for years for him and just discovered where he is buried.

I was told that he was buried in Newton NJ but every cemetery there said he was not buried there.

May Deshler
If you would, please add May's birth date to her memorial (#74181462) - she was born 22 November 1887. She was my grandmother's older sister and the first child baptized in the Easton, Moravian Church.
Thank you for your help

Rose Geishardt Winkler
Memorial #110430464
Rose Winkler is the wife of Paul Winkler, who was the brother of my husband's father. I am wondering how you knew her maiden name to be Geishardt.
Also in the 1940 census there is listed in the household along with son Gilbert another individual marked as "son" Jacob F Worner. Do you know anything about this individual?
