Bio Photo ** I will be away from Find a Grave for an unknown period of time. I will tend to all requests and edits as soon as I am able. **

My name is Vickie. I grew up in Swannanoa, N.C. and now I live in Asheville. I enjoy researching family history and walking through cemeteries to read stones. Everyone deserves to be remembered. Someone somewhere loved them. Thanks to the great contributors here at Find a Grave, I have been able to see the graves of many family members that I would have never seen if it wasn't for their generosity. It is so nice to be able to visit a loved one's grave and not even leave the house.

If any of my memorials contain errors, or if you have information to add, please send me a message or an edit. All memorials are done with the utmost respect of those who have passed on and those of us left behind.

Graveyards

When my soul is restless
And things seem out of line,
I visit an old graveyard
To take a mystical step back in time.

I find the oldest tombstones
Then read the messages there;
I consider what their days had been
And how our lives in ways compare.

We all have lived though heartaches
As well as episodes of fun;
Surviving loss of loved ones,
And rewarded for a job well done.

Sometimes if I'm very still
I can hear what they have to say
And feel them reaching out to me
Grateful for my momentary stay.

John T. Oates
Hello Vickie, I hope you are related to this John Oates(?) I'm pretty sure he's my great great great grandfather (or maybe another great in there...).

However, I'm trying to find out more about his death and his family especially since it looks like they had six children. The problem is only one (Mary, 5 mos old) was around in the 1850 census and the 1860 census shows his wife, Elizabeth as the head of household with the six kids. The youngest two, John P. and Sarah are shown to be ages 4 and 2. Depending on months John P. might work but Sarah definitely doesn't work if John T. died in 1854? Appreciate any light you might be able to shed...?

The 4th child, William Sloan is my Great Great Grandfather.

Best regards, let me know if we're related?!

I have noticed that you have left flowers at several of the Oates memorials, I was wondering if you are related. Margaret Oates 1876-1963 was my great-grandmothers sister. Would like to hear from you if you are related.

Find A Grave Memorial# 156162503 Elma Seitz Griffith
I am searching for living members of the Griffith side of my family. Was impressed with the detail on this Memorial Page and it led me to hope you might have some family connection or know someone connected. ELma's husband Joseph Entzminger Griffith is my 2nd great uncle. I lost track of my 2nd great grandfather and cannot find out what became of him and was hoping someone in the family would know. If you could make a connection I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks to your post of this memorial page, I have finally some hope of connecting. Thanks, Sharon

Verna Ellen Coates
Vickie,

I want to thank you for finding Verna's gravesite. I've been heartsick trying to find it.
Verna was my nanny that eventually turned into a grandmother figure for me. We sadly lost touch and I've been trying to find her for a while. I didn't even know that she had passed until her attorney was able to track me down about a year after but she didn't have information as to where she was resting.
Finding where she is has brought peace to my mind and I love going to visit her and talk to her. I might not be able to get a response back but I can feel her around me while I'm there. Her perfume always seems to permeate the air when I'm visiting. I'm sure it's all in my head but I like to think that she's come to visit with me, too. It's those moments with her there that I get to cherish now because you found her for me.
Sorry for the long story but I felt like you needed to know how much this really does mean to me.

Warmest regards,

Kate

You're welcome, but her husband already had one created by someone else in the same cemetery you originally had her in. I sent him a message as well and already added the picture to it. Thanks.
