I live in the Atlanta metro area and became a photo volunteer in December 2012. I truly enjoy helping others find their loved ones' graves. In the process, I learn about some fascinating people! |
My blog, Adventures in Cemetery Hopping, documents my grave hunting adventures. I usually publish on Fridays. I also have a Facebook page by the same name.
You are welcome to use any photo I have posted and if you could give me credit, I would appreciate it.
Also, let me know if you would like me to transfer a memorial to you if you are a relative or close friend.

One more thing there is a facebook page The Friends of Old Greencastle Cemetery. I have started posting stories about the people buried there, I call it Ghost of Old Greencastle and I'm inviting others to post stories about their ancestors, so if you interested please contribute any stories you might have they don't have to be anything long or detailed .I think these stories would help get others interested in helping there if they have some knowledge of the people there.

I fear neither of the headstones will last much longer given what they are made from.
My research is not likely to yield much of anything new. There is an odd situation with the records; the last real survey was done in the 1930s and resulted in the Section Row Gave Location system. The original system was a Plot number system for which there is no map. So now what we have are the known graves have a Section, Row, Grave location and no corresponding plot number and the unknown graves have plot numbers and no Section, Row, Grave location. I have completed a map of section 2 and only found 2 graves with both, if I can find enough of these I may be able to discern a pattern and maybe be able to map all the graves. Second problem is I don't know if each section has it's own Plot numbers or if it is cemetery wide. The only way I can see to really find all the old headstones would be with ground penetrating radar. I have tried to get some of the colleges interested to no avail, perhaps someday.
Thank you so much for the nice pictures of my Great-Great Grand Parents Nolen graves you took at Shadnor First Baptist Church. When two of my cousins and I visited there last year we were able to find the graves in no time with such a great job you did. People like you are a great help. If you are ever in the area of that church again and find my Great X3 Grand Parents Sutton and Sarah Byrd I would love to see their graves. I am not sure if there is stones they also have a son there named Levi Sutton who was in the Civil War. We did not know here were there when we visited for or Great X2 grand parents Nolen.
Thanks once again.

Thank you for the photographs of the Lavada Elizabeth Ball Copeland and Grace Copeland Blackwell markers. WestView is huge and not close to our houses so I'm especially appreciative you took the time to do this. Thank you.
Let me know how I can return the favor.

Ok I removed the top photo, but left the second photo, with your explanation that he is George's son and it is a cenotaph. Let me know if there is anything else that needs to be done, or if she wants a memorial created for Jr., I can do that too. I think he deserves a memorial page even tho he isn't buried there. What do you think?

I'm sorry that Andrea has had trouble contacting me. She may have requested a bulk family transfer, which I don't do, or asked for a correction on my page instead of submitting an edit. Not sure. So, I don't see George Foster's son. Is he also buried at Westview? Does he have a memorial page? If not, does he need to have one created? Then I can transfer the photos. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

If you would like to replace the photo, that would be great...

Hi, Traci. Thanks for doing that! I have a few other photos of the memorial and gravesite I will add. Not sure why I have never done that. It is very hard to get a good photo of that memorial. The glass is not sealed well and it is usually covered with condensation on the inside. Or there is a glare off the glass from the sun or it is in the shadow of the box. The "note" they mention is faded from the sun (door of memorial faces the west) and impossible to read. I am not sure that the man they mention that takes care of it comes any more. I will check on it and see what kind of shape it is in. I will add some information to her memorial. I have seen that article before, but thanks for refreshing things for me. I will get the memorial up to date.
