The Elusive Ancestor

I went searching for an ancestor, I cannot find him still.
He moved around from place to place and did not leave a will.
He married where a courthouse burned, he mended all his fences.
He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. census.
He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame.
And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name.
I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed; But the weather took engraving, and some vandals took the rest.
He died before the court clerks decided to keep records.
No family bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts.
To top it off, this ancestor who caused me many groans, just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named JONES!!!

Does Joseph have a headstone. He was my uncle and I visited is grave in Memorial Park cemetery in Kansas City, Jackson, MO where his headstone is with his brother and parents. I think he was cremated???

Lee, and Bertschman families
Yes, Golda and Roy are my grandparents. Then the Fraziers married 3 of my GG aunts from the Lee family. The Lee's were part of the Catholic emigration from Maryland to KY. They were there about 1785 along Hardins Creek. Where are you located, I'm guessing California.

I live in Sullivan County, Mo near Milan, and have seen your name many times as I am working on genealogy and also making lists of veterans buried in this county. I couldn't believe it when I saw your name on my uncle's memorial in PA. Are you related or working on names from Sullivan county?

Nancy J. Miller
Charleston Cemetery
Hello: I am researching the family of James M. Miller b. Feb. 1824 in Greene County, IL, s/o Lemuel and Mary Metcalf Miller. I am thinking that possibly the J. M. Miller you have on Find A Grave and listed in the charleston Cemetery could be he. But the year of death does not come close. I have him on the 1900 census and a possible date around 1903 for his death. His wife Lucinda died after 1909 in Wathena, KS. I am ordering d/c for both of them and hopefully the cemetery will be named. Please contact me personally at nancyj2015@juno.com. Thank you! Nancy Miller, Bloomington, IL

Lulu Miller Smyth
Hello Shani!
I was thrilled to find a F-A-G entry for one of my Smith/Smyth ancestors who was married to Lulu Miller. However, I believe her year of birth to be 1865, not 1885. It IS very hard to tell on the tombstone but she married Lucian Smith in 1888 and had their only child Glen in 1889. I also submitted the correction using the correction tab.
Thanks!

Mary Harmon Sample
Hi there, My name is Carol Routt and I am working on Sample Family history. I am wondering how you found Mary's maiden name and if you can share that information and source. I also found her in censuses with her husband William A Sample (b. 1851) and she is Mary C Sample in the 1900 census. Please let me know about her. Find A Grave Memorial # 136931834. Thank You, Carol Routt

Ada Blankenship Larkin
I am brand new to this site and was thrilled to find your listing for Ada Blankenship Larkin. She was my great-grandmother. Her son, Frances (Frank) Larkin was my grandfather. I was so grateful to find all the information you have compiled. I am sharing it with one of my cousins, Linda Arpin Jensen who is the granddaughter of Rosemary Larkin.

James Monroe Sanders
Hi, I am unsure if you are related to James Sanders or just a fantastic genealogist and researcher. I see there is a Missouri death certificate number listed on this memorial. It's been over 50 years but I can't find it on the Missouri Heritage site. Can I access a copy somewhere without having to order it from the State? James mother, Sarah Walden Sanders was a sister to my 2xgreat g'father William Walden. Thanks in advance,
-Susan Walden Thurston

Arnold Eugene Miller
Thanks for the correction about Arnold Miller.
Are you connected with these Millers? My great-grandfather was George Caperton Miller, the same as Arnold. Do you know the name of the cemetery for either George C or Albert W? I'm trying to find someone who knows some details of George's migration to Kansas.
