Bio Photo Genealogy has become my newest addiction!

THANK YOU to those of you that I've encountered on findagrave that have been so friendly, helpful, kind, and appreciative. You make all the "bad" seem less significant.

Taphophilia = an abnormal love for graves and cemeteries. The love of walking cemeteries and finding lost relatives and the gravesites of ancestors.

Find a Grave does not require that I search the entire Find a Grave system globally, only the individual cemeteries in which I am adding to. Please do not move your Burial Unknown or a person from an incorrect cemetery into the correct cemetery based on the information you found from my memorial & then demand that I delete my "duplicate". It is not fair that I spend my time, my gas, my $, hunt down owners of the properties, bee stings, ticks, poison ivy, and even risk to my life (bull in the pasture, scary men, and electrified fence-no snakes so far) to photo gravestones only later to find that an armchair F-A-Ger has placed a name in either an incorrect cemetery or has a burial unknown, finds I have actually found-the-grave, moves theirs to the correct cemetery and then expects me to delete my entry. I WILL TRANSFER my submissions after the incorrect entry is deleted. This way we both get credit and the person who makes the incorrect entry still has a memorial they maintain. I feel this is more than fair.

THIS IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH FINDAGRAVE RULES!!! I refer you to Find A Grave rules: "In regard to duplicates, a memorial with a correct known burial location will always be preferred over an unknown burial location". (quoted from another find-a-graver)

I check the cemetery before adding, I do not always check for unknown burials, but if I do find a Burial Unknown or incorrect cemetery entry, I will have admin merge it into my correctly added memorial.

Also, if you move your BU and tell me I have created a duplicate, just know that I will have admin check the history of the memorial to make sure it was not changed or moved before I delete mine.

In general, Findagrave does not encourage adding memorials for individuals who are still living. We do realize, however, that when transcribing a cemetery, it is not always possible to determine if the person is living or not. Given these exceptions, a memorial created after death will be preferred over a pre-need memorial.

I would prefer that birth/death/marriage certificates not be posted to the memorials I have created. I prefer the space be made available for photos of the person since most of these documents are easily found online and can be transcribed to the bio area of the memorial.

These records, especially Death records, can contain private and sensitive information that family members may not want shared.

The addition is even less helpful if an edit request is not sent to have the pertinent information added to the memorial. Thanks for your cooperation!!

Please do not put photos of newspaper obits on the memorials. These take up limited spaces in the photo allotment. If you have an obit then please type it up and submit it through the edit option and I would be happy to add it to the bio section as long as the name of the newspaper and date of publication are included.

If you've never taken a few moments to spend time in the cemetery...You're really missing out. The peace and tranquility you find in them. Those that have gone before many times have left a final message on their tombstones. These messages are an inspiration and make me feel humbled and blessed! Go ahead...take the time...walk your local cemetery and read their messages and see how they reach out and touch you! You'll be glad you did! (quoted from another find-a-graver)

We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors.
To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve.
Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before.
We are the story tellers of the tribe.

"When I go to a cemetery, I don't just see tombstones. I see families there. I see history there. I see much more than just a stone..."

RE: re: Margaret J. Oliver
Hi Anna:

You are correct, I did a little more digging and that tombstone is not Margaret Jane Oliver. When Jasper died Margaret Jane remarried Watson Balderson and is buried with him in Montrose Missouri. Thanks for your good eye.

One could wish that one would turn the flag holder to the front when one takes a photo. What Organization placed this flag holder?

Change made as requested. Thank You.

But his wife is still living so 157324228 is a pre-need memorial. Please remove.

Photo Request - Harley Starlin
Hello Anna,

We (hubby & I) searched the Rockland Cemetery yesterday. We found the headstones for Jerry & Brenda Starlin, and saw what appeared to be a new grave - Betty recently passed away, but no headstone for she or Harley. Will continue to check back to see if one has been placed.

Kind regards,
Susan Thompson

RE: Shirley Ann Byers Phillips photo
I"d be more than happy to but everytime I"ve uploaded it, it gets turned upside down. It's right side up on my computer. When I enlarge the picture on Find A Grave - the upside down thumbnail - it becomes right side up. I don't know what's going on with it.

RE: Dr Frank Wilbur Jewett obit.
You are welcome. All the Jewetts in the U.S are related to me, but I am only interested in managing the ones in my direct line. I have four volume set of the Jewett Genealogy. Hopefully I will be around when volumes 5 & 6 come out, as I will be in them! :) My mom was a Jewett. I'm very happy to work with you, keep up the great job you're doing on Fandagrave!!

Hi Anna, I was reading your bio again. I love quotes and saw yours and fell in love. Do you know who said/wrote it and do you mind if I copy it? One of my favorites is : "We never stand so tall as when we stoop to help a child." ~~Abraham Lincoln BUT that isn't a genealogy quote. LOL Thank you!
