Bio and Links
Bio Photo Since I developed an interest in finding my roots, Find A Grave has been a great resource. If more people would connect family links when possible, it would be even better.

One of my grandfathers was born in Tonawanda, NY. His father emigrated to NY from Germany in 1881, married a German-American woman, and lived in a house on the bank of the Erie Canal.

My other grandparents were born in Florida, with their ancestors moving south into Georgia and Florida from Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.

I am interested in the names Gillett(e), Licht, Brantley, and Page. Also, I have interest in related families that the Gillett(e)s married into, such as Boston, Richards, and Stewart.

Notable ancestors (not necessarily famous):

James Alderman
James Harris Brantley
Daniel Gillett
Charles Wesley Hendry
Herman Charles Licht
Marion Washington Page

If you are a relative of a memorial I am maintaining, I will be happy to transfer maintenance to you if you are more closely related than I am.

When I take photos of grave markers, I don't try anything fancy. I go for maximum readability of the inscriptions. Sometimes this means manipulating the picture in Photoshop, leaving the marker lighter or darker than it actually is.

You are welcome to use my photos of markers for any non-commercial purpose, such as personal family trees, or posting on and similar sites. I can usually provide a higher resolution copy should you need one.

P.S. I was recently contacted by someone who had public messages disabled and did not have a pubic email address. How was I supposed to reply to them? If you contact me and want a response, please provide a way to contact you.

Not a problem! The spelling of names has sometimes been left up to the person writing it like the census taker. This can explain a lot of variations in some cases. I have requested a photo of his marker and it should show the spelling as it appears on his marker. In my family's case they didn't want to be German after WWII here in America so they changed the spelling. Unfortunately not everyone got the memo!

Sanford J Gillette
Hi- I received your edit to change the spelling of his last name but even you spelled it Gillette as the caption for the photo you posted. Please share your source for the edit.

RE: Daniel Gillett
After a quick check it looks like I'm not related to the Gillett's only by distant marriage.

James Lee Carr

So we must be related somehow. Adolph Licht was my great great great grandfather on my mothers' side. But it seems as though you have some history on my grandfather's side which is what I'm looking for. Do you happen to know who the father of James Lee Carr (Sr.) is? I think I may have found a connection but it seems a bit off. Any help would be much appreciated.

You are very welcome. Glad we were able to do that for you. We also took a close up photo of Carol's name - but where there wasn't a date of death we didn't post it...just in case.

Ok, I will reassign them to you.

Yes, Terry and I went up to the cemetery in May 2014 and hand cleaned the faces of the stones as directed by a cemetery stone company. We had to haul water by hand for 20+ headstones. There are 4 generations of Boston men, wives, brothers and sisters with stones there. Uncle Earle had all the memorial stones places there for the ones that are not actually buried there. On the large Boston stone, which I need to add to at least the first George Whitfield Boston's site, on the backside are all the names of the children of William King and Henry French Boston. Unfortunately, there is a wrought iron fence almost touching it and we couldn't get a toothbrush in there to clean that side. It's a big stone, white like the ones for the older generations.

Terry and I want to be buried there, or at least our cremains, with a stone placed for our names. We have to have it surveyed to make sure there are no remains there already in the leftover space. Otherwise we will have it placed in front of his Dad's stone.

The cemetery is still being used and is well maintained, esp. in the new part. Terry had to remove a couple small trees that were growing right next to the stones and uncover two that were already covered over with growth.

Still trying to break down walls in the family history. Maybe someday.....

Thanks again for the transfers. You sent a couple who are not Bostons but are in the Newnansville Cemetery. I don't mind keeping them but they aren't related to Terry as far as I know.

I worked all evening on adding info pictures. If you would like, take a look and let me know what you think. I still have some links to do for a couple. How do you link siblings and children? I see how to add parents and spouse but other than typing them in a biography, I don't see how to link siblings or children if they are in find a grave.

There are a couple of wrong dates on stones for some Boston people. Uncle Earle must have guessed, he had 1906 put on Meribah's memorial stone but it had to be 1907. She died a few months after Marion Eugene Boston's birth.(Terry's dad). He was born in Nov. 2006 and she couldn't have died in April before he was born!
