Thank you Sharon -
Thank you so much, Sharon, for the picture of my cousin Forrey's marker in Custer National Cemetery, Michigan. I had wanted to go home and see him before he died, but it just wasn't possible. His little sister, Shirley, took care of him at home, where he died. She's really made of the same great stuff, after all.
He was my favorite cousin, an island of decency and kindness in a childhood that was certainly not. He came to stay at our house between high school and college, as he made his final scholarship decisions and arrangements, and left for Michigan State from our house.
From Michigan State, he entered Annapolis, graduated from the Naval Academy, and the rest is history.
My favorite pictures are one of him on a tricycle at maybe two, looking bashful, and one as a Navy Chaplain, alone on a rope, transferring between two warships, high over rough seas.
He was not some ordinary guy, I wish somebody had said that. I hope Forrey is never forgotten.
Thank you very much.
