Erastus L Smith
Hi Irma, I know you have posted so many graves and so much appreciate it! I have reason to believe that Erastus L. Smith (the brother of my great great grandfather) was the same ELS who was murdered in California in 1850. Quite a story. The stone states 1849, but since I think this memorial was made c. 1891, the survivors of the family did not know the exact year and guessed (like my 3rd great grandpa Samuel's birth year is off as well). Erastus and several other cousins and locals went out to CA during the gold rush. His two murderers were eventually killed, one was hanged years later for something else.

RE: Smith Triplets
I'm glad you found it worthwhile.

I've been wondering (and trying to suss out) what is the claim to fame of "Mrs. Jared Redfield, who is prominently known in Connecticut". :)
