I am Kerry Elkins. I live in Gladstone, Missouri, with my wife Joyce. I'm retired. I have been busy on the family trees of my side (Elkins, Monroe, Stansbury, Patchin, Usher, Satterwhite, Hallum and Woody) plus my wife's Fulton, Pence, & Braidwood trees. I grew up in Neodesha, Kansas and have many of the funeral home burial records.|
STRANGERS IN A BOX
Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen,
At the pictures, black and white
Faces proud, still, serene.
I wish I knew the people
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories
are lost among my socks.
I wonder what their lives were like,
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.
If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what, where or when,
These faces of my heritage would
come to life again.
Could this become the fate
Of pictures we take today?
The faces and memories
Someday to be passed away?
Make time to save your stories.
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours could be
The strangers in the box.

Thanks for letting me know of the error.
Can you tell me if this is a Union Parish burial?
My files are huge and it's tough to zero in on some of them.
hum.. sorry, I don't recall do you have a memorial # that might refresh my memory? thanks.

I found the stone by looking up her husband.

Do you have, found or know something confirming Charles parents? I have seen other ancestry trees pointing to this but they lack sources.
I do know that Charles' brother William D., lived with them for a time or stated that this was his address, per US City Directories 1822-1995.
In 1941 I found LULU in California where she married Walter Weaver, and lived out in the Bakersfield area until her death in 1962, confirming with a copy of her obituary.

You're welcome. I added it to Bessie's page for you as requested. I wish I would've had some cleaning supplies to get rid of the bird splotches. Sorry about that!
|Angela Inman||Thank you|
Thank you so much. I am helping my best friend's husband research his family. We discovered these Halley's are his family. It looks like they came from Northern Missouri, settled here for a while, and then dad dies after daughter dies within days. Grandma moves to California later.
I was reading your information. Do you by chance know any more about the Halley Family here?

Thank-you very much for the grave marker pictures for the Caulfield's in the Neodesha Cemetery in Neodesha, KS. I appreciate it.
|Michael K. Smith||Re: David Shaeffe (Mem #39411588)|
You say David Shaeffer was born in Appanoose County, Iowa, in 1808, but this is simply impossible. There were only occasional French trappers along the eastern edges of Iowa before 1820, and American settlement didn't start until the early 1830s (including some of my people in the first wave). I don't know what your source is, but I'm guessing David was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, with the rest of his siblings, both older and younger.
