Bio and Links
Bio Photo I retired as an elementary school principal in 2000. As a person that sleeps only 4 hours a night that leaves 20 hours to fill. Sitting home is not an option. Now, I drive a school bus 5 hours a day and visit cemeteries every chance I get. I have never been to a cemetery that charged admission and seldom is there a crowd. My wife, Sandra, is of a like mind so it works well. We both enjoy the hunt and the thrill that comes with each discovery. Let us know if we can help. If you have additional information on one of my post or you are a relative and want ownership, I will gladly transfer it to you. Just ask. Oh! By the way just call me Doc!
NOTE: Many times the family plot has names different from those on the headstone. I always attempt to provide a reference point for markers. Hope this is not confusing.

Quotes worth remembering:

"Live your life so that your memories make you smile." rej

"Tread softly, dreams are buried here." Unknown

"If you wonder about your 'roots' you have two parents, four grandparents eight great-grandparents and 16 great-great-grandparents, and by the time you go back 10 generations 300 years or so- you had 1,024 people from whom you are directly descended. --Mady Castro

Thank you, Mr. Jordan
Mr. Jordan,
Thank you so much for posting a photograph of the Dobbins family plot at Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney, SC. My great-great grandmother is buried there and I went there today to find her grave. Without your picture, we never would have found it (we used the tree in the background as a reference and after about 30 minutes of driving around, finally located it). It meant a lot to our family to locate that grave. Thank you again!

RE: Dixon
Hi Richard. The Dixons are my grandparents and I would definitely like to contribute to the Dixon Memorials. My maternal Aunt married a Matlock and they divorced when I was very young, so I may pass on future contributions to the Matlock Memorials. Thank you for asking and please let me know what I need to do to be involved with managing the Dixon Memorials.

RE: Hobans
Would think there would be more information about the son, James who died in 1888. I can only find one reference to their relationship father/son in a family tree on ancestry, Curran_Bell Family tree. Listed as the source: "Burial records at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Washington, DC". Can ask the tree creator about this source.
Listed also on this tree is Mamie James' wife, also listed as buried at Mount Olivet. died 1909. (Sometimes folks do get things wrong on ancestry, however.) I did however, find references/sources for James Hoban, the grandson, who died in 1918 and some of his family, who are also buried in Mt Olivet. They had not been added, so I added them. Interesting family, maybe there are more Hobans in the family plot who have no headstones than I realized. Or can look at next trip to see if any are adjoining or close by.
