My son & I have combined his love of U.S. military history and my love of genealogy & art into a fun and educational pursuit.

Our enthusiasm began after a springtime trip to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virgina. We were overwhelmed ... the riot of color from the dogwoods mixed with the somber grays of the stones stole my breath away, while the famous names of JEB Stuart & George Pickett had my young man whooping (albeit quietly) & tossing his cap in the air. The die was cast and since then we have traveled many miles and poured through many books & documents together. We travel yearly into Pennsylvania exploring our family roots. You may find us in the Marx Room of the Easton Library, or haunting the cemeteries of Montour & Columbia counties ...

We spent many years working through our old home county of Gloucester and the adjoining Mathews county photographing & transcribing the cemeteries.

My son is about to launch into college and we have now settled into our new home in the gorgeous mountains of north Georgia. My dream of living near the Appalachian Trail is finally reality! A hiker's Dream Come True!

If you should find an error or would like me to transfer a loved one to your care, please pop us a note.

Ex-County Keeper for Gloucester, Virginia.

Saint John's #2 cemetery - Pottsville PA
Hi Egg and Dart

Please be aware that any death certificate you have saying the person was buried in St. John's #2 means they are buried in YORKVILLE which is a different cemetery and location than what Find A Grave says.

The Pottsville PA cemetery information at Find A Grave is a mess. The cemetery they have as St John's #2 at N.Centre and Clinton streets is actually Saint Patrick's #3.

How did this happen? Apparently, Find A Grave doesn't check to verify cemeteries that people create. I believe somebody created a Saint John's #2 and it snowballed from there. I think it's foolish of Find A Grave to allow people to create cemeteries when they can't find what they are looking for.Folks often don't know the area they are dabbling with and that a cemetery they can't find is on the list with another name. That is what probably happened.

St. John's #2 is aka the YORKVILLE cemetery and is also called Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Cemetery. Find A Grave says that Yorkville is aka St. John's #3 and that's wrong

St. John's #3 is the now abandoned cemetery at 8th and Pierce streets in Pottsville. Find A Grave calls that St. John's #1

Saint John's #1 was behind the church and is now a parking lot. Those who were interred there were moved to Calvary cemetery in Mount Carbon

It's a serious problem and Find A Grave don't seem to really care as they have ignored all 3 of my attempts to get it corrected. I finally said screw it.

All I have written is what I was told at the Schuylkill County Historical Society and one of the ladies who helped me was a church record keeper at Saint John the Baptist in Pottsville for many years.

FWIW, I found all 11 of my people who were said to be buried at St John's #2 in the cemetery at 20th and Mahantonga streets and that is Yorkville.

Best Wishes

Find A Grave changes
I have some edits for you and didn't know if you knew about it. You might want to pass it on to your friends.

New System for Memorial Edits deployed by FindAGrave on 12/5/2013

Go to your Contributor/Profile page. Look in the upper right corner. You should now see a tab called "Edits" - check there to see if any have been submitted to you. Then just review and accept.

Way easier for doing updates to names/dates/places/plot numbers/links. If you don't approve within 21 days it will automatically accept it and possibly change correct info.

You still will get e-mails to add info to bio section.

Missing information from some of family
I found this site by searching for family members. I have noticed some family information is missing for some of my family. How can I get this added of at least let you know?

Emmett J Hudgins
First let me thank you for all of your dedication to creating countless memorial ages photographs! I am researching the Hudgins family and it is obvious that you did a lot of work on the Friendship Cemetery in Mathews, VA. Emmett J Hudgins 1872-1924 has some errors on his page. His parents listed were not yet born (1907 & 1915 respectively) when he was born.

His father actually was Franklin Hudgins B:abt 1830 D:27 Apr 1894 and his mother was Nancy J Brownley Hudgins (#36877372)married in 1851. There is no memorial page for Franklin Hudgins but I feel like he must be buried there too. From your photos it appears Nancy is buried in the same family plot with son Emmett and his wife Fannie Davis Hudgins. Could husband/father Franklin be buried with them? Do you know or is there any way to find out. Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you,
Donna Wilkins

Stanley B Newman
It appears you have two memorials for Stanley B Newman. The other one is Stanley Boyd Newman. Would you please combine them? Thanks
