Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching my genealogy since 1999. My family search includes cemeteries in San Antonio, Tarpley, Bandera, Utopia, Coryell County, and the surrounding areas. I can't get to my Louisiana family very much, but I do try to research them as much as possible.

E. L. Bridges Find A Grave Memorial #34192368

Hope you can help me. In the information about this individual it mentions his first wife Minnie E. Chambers and their infant son who died shortly after birth. The information listed here on E. L. Bridges listing states the child was born 25 October 1898 and died 30 October 1898. First wife Minnie E. Chambers is listed as having died shortly thereafter on 7 November 1898. Those dates all make sense to me and the information on Minnie's Find A Grave Memorial reflects what is listed there. However, the infant son is listed as having been born and died on 30 December 1886. Although the stone looks more like 1896 I still dispute the dates. That would mean Minnie was 7 years old when the child was born. It looks pretty clear that whoever ordered the stone gave date of birth and date of death as the same date for both.

I was wondering if you were the one who supplied the information for E. L. Bridges Memorial or did someone else? I would like to get the infant son documented correctly and I tend to go with what is on Edward's memorial page.

Minnie E. Chambers Bridges - Memorial #34768020 (they spelled that wrong too "Bridgest instead of Bridges") I put a change in today.

Infant son Bridgest - Memorial #34759472.

Thank you,

Gail Bice

Flying L
Oh yes, that would be wonderful if you can sent me the two newspaper articles. In my research on the internet, not all the years around the opening are available to search. Not sure if you saw the article but there was an article by Zeke MacCormack in the San Antonio Express-News on the front page on Thurs., Jan. 12, 2017, that said that the Texas Historical Commission planned to take a closer look at whether Frank Lloyd Wright actually designed the buildings at the Flying L Ranch. The article was titled, "The Wright stuff: Does Flying L have it?" and was in the lower left hand corner. I had seen and read your memorial for Jack on Find A Grave in my research and had thought that I would try to contact you in regards as to where you had found your sources but had just not gotten to it yet. It is really amazing that I stumbled into you when I transferred Bill's memorial to you. Very often in my research I have been fortunate to receive unexpected finds when I have shared some of my research with others.

In connection to the Texas Historical Commission research, I think it would be extremely beneficial to have a letter stating your grandparent's employment/positions at the ranch, their years of employment there, and your mother's knowledge of the building being Frank Lloyd Wright look alikes also.

Can't tell you how excited my friend in Bandera will be to hear about your grandparents and the articles.

My email address is

Thanks so much, In memory

Part of what I think I remember is that he was a repeat offender and when he got out of prison he came back and was living at his parent's/mother's house. The sheriff's department found a well-worn path between his family's property and Denise's trailer, he apparently had been stalking her for a long time. I cannot, to this day, think about her death without remembering the horrific ways he tortured her. I was working across the street from the courthouse when the trial occurred and everyone was extremely upset with the D.A. for not wording the charges correctly so he could get the death penalty. I know some men that had to really contain themselves to not kill the guy when they saw him in the courtroom.
I haven't lived in Bandera for a long time, have heard the last names but really did not know your grandparents. I am interested that you said that they ran the Flying L and worked for Mr. Lapham. I was just doing some research on both the ranch and Jack Lapham last night. I don't know if you have heard anything about the historical marker that the new owners just recently placed at the ranch saying that the buildings were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright? There is quite a controversy going as to weather or not he really did. A firm in San Antonio that designed "in his style" are the ones that officials say designed the ranch--and a former employee of that firm remembers that they did also. Have you ever heard anything about him in the past being the designer of the Flying L? All the newspaper articles that I can find from the time around the development and grand opening of the ranch do not mention him at all. He was already quite famous at that time so you would think that would have been something that the papers would have really run with!?!
...Just funny how life works...would never have thought that I would find someone that had family connections to the ranch the very next day after my never know. :) In memory

Bill Walker
You are welcome. I am not a numbers person here, always like to pass along a memorial to a family member, even distant, that can add info to the memorials and will take good care of them.

Bill's daughter, Denise, lived next to us for a short time when she first started teaching in Bandera before she bought a trailer house and lived back on their ranch. Her murder really hit the community extremely hard. So very sad, the murderer took away a shinning light in our small town when he took her innocent and promising life. He comes up for parole ever few years, it would be horrible for him to ever be released. I pray that he isn't. Denise is still remembered with loving thoughts and memories by folks in Bandera even now.

Hi Pat,

Are you related to the Gentry family that you sent edits about? If so, I'd be glad to transfer Julia and Elvn to your care. I am not related - just walking the cemetery and taking photos. I also have some other Gentry memorials in that same cemetery. I do not know how they are related. If you are interested let me know.
