**Right now my husband & I are working on a huge project with two other couples. They are the best! I won't be adding as many obituaries or getting to the Edits as soon as I normally do but I'll get to them as soon as possible. |
**To whom this may concern (you know who you are) I absolutely will not post TWO surnames to the surname box even if there are two surnames on the stone. Policy is you post the last name of the deceased at time of death. In the case of two surnames on a stone, I post this to the Inscription section or as stated in the FAQ below, to the Biography section. This member likes to make threats of contacting Find A Grave. This member likes to send policy to me but they need to read the policy sent. Here's what was sent this morning.....17 Aug. 2017
"Find A Grave FAQ
How do I enter all married names for a woman's memorial when she was married more than once?
The 'last name' is the name that is on the headstone. Include other married names as part of the biography section. The 'maiden name' is only for her maiden name. [Top]
Members comment to me...QUOTE:"The site policy is above. Read it. I will send your declined info with it to the admins along with the other declined edits. Thanks!" UNQUOTE
This shows the member did not read the policy correctly. It states "INCLUDE OTHER MARRIED NAMES AS PART OF THE BIOGRAPHY SECTION." If this member continues the harassment I will be the one to contact Find A Grave. I've declined the members Edit's pertaining to this twice & will continue to do so. This member is a troublemaker & on my list of those I will not work with. This member is combative as I found out the first few months of 2017. I don't have time for troublemakers. It's a shame we have to put up with such nonsense.
A short Bio: I've been involved in Genealogy for 40 years. It's been exciting traveling to different states, visiting court houses, libraries, cemeteries. Finding links to tie my family together. This was before computers made everything so easy. Back then you had to hoof it if you wanted documentation. I have documented my family back to the 1640's. I value each piece of documentation I've acquired over 40 years. I also value everyone I've met during my research. We've remained lifelong friends. Respect, given & received is very important in Genealogy. I've been a FAG member for over thirteen years. I've worked with many wonderful people in that time. Some I'd rather forget & I will not work with. Such rude people. I'm retired & FAG fills a lot of days & evenings.
The surnames I've done extensive researched on and link to my family are Bayes, Blanton, Blevins, Bradley, Cantrell, Curtis, Davis, Gullett, Hartley, Hines, Hitchcock, Jayne, Lemaster, McCarty, McFarland, McGowan, McKenzie, Nickell, Pennington, Reed, Salyer, Shavers, Smith, Stafford, Stevens, Tackett, Williams.
I've disabled my message center due to the rude actions of some members on Find A Grave. I can be reached by the edit tab. I'd like to thank all of you for the kind messages I receive through the edit system. They are much appreciated. You are what keeps me going. Thank you!!
Linking, Transfers, Biography, Duplicates: I find it important to LINK families in death as they were in life. Find A Grave once said they'd like the cemeteries to open like a book. This is what I strive for. I TRANSFER memorials to those requesting transfers unless they are family or a close friend. If you send additions to the BIOGRAPHY section, I give credit to the sender. I welcome notifications for DUPLICATES and remove without hesitation. I also transfer my photo's to the original, which is permitted by Find A Grave. Find A Grave frowns upon duplicates. If I notify you of a duplicate & it's not remove after 3-4 months, I WILL contact FAG for removal. Have the courtesy to inform me if they are family! I've had many removed that were family. In those cases I request transfers. Find A Grave advises you can always request transfers but duplicates are not permitted & you don't make your own rules.
No one on FAG has more authority than another. No one is in charge but the curator's of Find A Grave.
***Per FAG: You manage the memorial's you've created but you do not own them. They belong to Find A Grave.
***Per Find A Grave:
"We have a soft limit of 40 edits per week over the edit tab and a limit of 20 edits per week over "suggest a correction". Plus 21 days to complete them."
Pictures: You're welcome to use my photo's. Credit is not needed. I see many of my pics on Ancestry which is fine. I'm not a glory seeker. I'm dedicated to Find A Grave but it does not define me. Find A Grave advises if a photo has been posted to memorials I manage, I still have a right to post mine. They advise no one has a right to expect theirs to be exclusive. I don't expect mine to be exclusive on memorials not managed by me. Please be advised if I made a memorial I will eventually take pictures of that memorial. Your pictures will be moved down. Also you can't fill up the picture section with your photo's on another's memorials. It's a privilege to post to memorials managed by others. Do not abuse that privilege.
Find A Grave Policy: No bullying! Respect at all times in the spirit of Find A Grave. If you are being bullied report to FAG curator's. No slandering members on your bio page! No cut out obits in the picture section, no names of the living in obits. No obit photo's. If I find obits in the picture section or obit pictures, they are removed. Death Certificates are welcome. No posting of memorials of the living. How do you find the "living" on Find A Grave? I follow Find A Grave rules. They were made for a reason.
Find A Grave is also aware of tricks some of you play when it comes to submitting obituaries. If I have one submitted I always check to make sure there are no obit already posted. They have advised to contact them, they can go through both accounts & can tell who actually posted the first.
I don't condemn for the amount of memorials a member has. Those who do are worried about the numbers, not the reason we are here in the first place, to document those who have passed before us. If you're so worried that you have to make critical comments about the amount of memorials a member has, then I suggest you work at it. There's a lot of members who have a lot more memorials than I do. Take in consideration how many more years a member has been doing this than you. I know the hard work it takes to photo cemeteries. I've photographed over 73,000 head stone's & I'm proud of it! Are you going to gripe about that too? You complainers are a pitiful bunch. I applaud everyone who's work shows you're in it for the right reasons and not for the reasons of the complainers which are the numbers. What are we here for if not to record the passing of those who have gone before us? Some people aren't here for the right reasons.
Say not in grief 'she is no more' but live in thankfulness that she was. - Hebrew Proverb
