Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in northwest Iowa and am a retired journalism/English teacher. My husband and I enjoy walking cemeteries and finding gravestones, wondering about the life of the person buried there. We are glad to help others learn about their family history.

Genealogy fits my personality... combining a love of research, computer, writing, photography, and family.

I have enjoyed meeting other individuals and chatting about their pursuit of their ancestors' information. Although one can never truly "finish" researching a family line, I set a deadline of July each summer to "finish" one family line and enter it in the local county fair. I have won Best of Show the past seven years and in doing so, have been able to reach out to others and help them learn how to start searching for their own ancestors.

RE: Thanks
Hi, Ann,

It's good to hear from you. I haven't seen you around lately, so I wondered if things were okay!

I set about doing my closest counties, and finished O'Brien last year. I haven't had as much time as I'd like to devote to it, but I get out as often as I can. My husband and I meet at Oak Hill once or twice a week. It's on his way home from work. And we try to knock out a section at a time. All sections are NOT created equal there!

I pull the obits when I get curious, and there's just no telling what will make me curious! Yesterday we worked in 7A, which is the southeast corner, section closest to the center drive, and I believe that at one time, that must have been the Potters' Field? Lot of wide open spaces there -- way too many, so I shudder to think of how many we're missing.

Our roles with FindAGrave evolve, and that's not a bad thing. As you know, Oak Hill is mostly recorded and we're inching up the percentage photographed point by point. Sometimes I punch so many duplicates that our percentage photographed actually moves backward! That threw me for a loop. lol... but it has to be done.

I love reading the old newspapers, but as you know, it takes a lot of time. I'll be happy to process any that you find, and I love getting edits, so I hope you'll hang with us as we work through the entire cemetery. I just wish there were more hours in the day and that I had a less finicky back!

Good to hear from you! Thanks so much for being in touch! I hope you find a role that's comfortable for you because your experience is certainly needed and much appreciated!

Hi, Ann,

You have placed a photo on multiple Ann Julius memorials. The one that is on this memorial does not belong. I did find her burial yesterday, and it's not this stone.

Will you please remove your photo from this memorial?

RE: Walter Wilhelm Huseman
OK Thanks Ann. They should make a note in the bio area, that would help. Kris.

Walter Wilhelm Huseman
Hi Ann, Was checking on the Hanover Cemetery listing when I came upon Walter Huseman's Find A Grave Memorial# 44428299. You took a great photo except it isn't for Walter's stone. Can you take a look and place that great picture with it's owner. Thanks for all you do with find a grave. Kris.

HS Clow 65530223
Hi, Ann,

I'm walking Oak Hill in Cherokee. Today I came upon Stella Clow, wife of H.S. Clow, 65530227. Her name is now listed as Ida Stella Clow, and I have put in an edit to correct that to the name on the headstone, Stella T. Clow.

You have added her stone photo to her husband's memorial, and in actuality, assuming the plot numbers are correct, his grave is unmarked.

Would you kindly remove her photo from his memorial?

I have added a slightly more legible photo to her memorial, but did not take a long shot until I got home and could see what was actually going on with this couple.

Thanks so much,

Hi, you took some photos of her grave stone for me and I was wondering if you had any close ups of the few stones in front of the main family stone?

You took a picture of her family stone showing some more stones in front, but I can't read who they are.

I appreciate you taking the photos that you did. I'm hoping maybe the ones in the front might give me some more information on this family.

Thank you again for taking the photos that you did!

Have a great day!
