Bio and Links
Bio Photo I love Find A Grave. It's like Facebook for the dead. A heartfelt thanks to all the Find A Grave photographers who've fulfilled my requests for headstone pictures, and to the others of you who've generously transferred your pages to me. I'm grateful for and enjoy the friendships, camaraderie, assistance and humor that passes between and among us. You've filled missing gaps, corrected errors, and answered numerous questions. My family thanks you too, as this is really a gift to them.
In Memoriam:
"With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey", died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in... and then the trouble started."
Note: Sorry, sometimes I just can't stop myself… Catherine
What calls us to find the ancestors? It goes beyond a simple curiosity. We are taken over, compelled, as if possessed by something bigger than us that is begging to be revealed. There is one of us in almost every family called to be the scribe. I am but one of many in our clan's long line of storytellers. Like others, I'm called to gather and assemble the ancestors, to breathe life into them again as far back as we can reach. We take what we find and chronicle the facts of their existence, remembering their names, who they were, and what they did. They are the sum of who we are. Without them, we would not exist. We greet those who came before us, restoring their place in line. We scribe their stories and their histories. We search for them in public libraries, county records, and weed-filled or well-kept cemeteries. We comb through yellowed newspapers, family archives, lovely old letters and photo albums. We find them! And in finding them, we find ourselves.

My brother and I are researching our family lines—he for years—I of late. Compiling four volumes, our records span from the sailings to America to our parent's generation. Our main lines:

Henry HOY, Jr. & Mary Ann SMITH
Finley McLaren CHAMBERLIN & Emily S. HOY
Mathew Sylvester CLEMENS & Barbara NIGON

Always happy to connect with kin and fellow researchers to compare notes. It takes a village. Other than a handful of close friends, I'm related directly, in parallel, or by marriage to every person for whom I hold a Find A Grave page, though some more distantly than others.

Anyone who fulfilled headstone requests and transferred me pages prior to Jan 2013 and have not heard back from me, please don't think me ungrateful or thoughtless; my hard drive crashed and I lost 9,000 emails of genealogy correspondence. Arrghh.

I'm aware I have a number of non-compliant "Burial Unknown" and am doing my best to convert them as they get entered by others by moving information over and deleting my page. I've entered them to link the family through the generations in hopes a burial location will found at some point.
I've thought about this: obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told how the person died.
In 2013, I published "Passages from Behind These Doors, A Family Memoir," and recently published my second book, "Queen Bee, Reflections on Life and Other Rude Awakenings." There are many stories of the family in both. Do a search for SEVENAU, you'll find it! I also publish a weekly blog.
NOTE: If you email me and are not already in my address book, the first time out you'll get caught in my spam. Relax. I'll see your message and move it to my inbox. No need to fill out the code or get cranky and send me a crabby message.

Memorial Transfer
Hi Catherine -

Thank you for maintianing the memorials for Capt Joseph Loveland, Jr #12499480 and Lois Chatfield #86871170. If they are not a direct descendent of, would you transfer their memorials to me? I am their 6th great granddaughter.

Thanks -

So far, not much luck on the Wetzel family. They seem to have "told stories" so records aren't very accurate. So many ins and outs and much dysfunction. Search continues..... Cynthia

I see you have entered many of my relatives. How can I "take ownership" of them so I can add info and photos? Thanks.

Hi Catherine.

I just wanted to let you know that I uploaded a picture of Laura's stone just now. It was under some thick weeds that I had missed during my two prior trips to the now abandoned Wagner Cemetery in Ridott, IL.

Hi! I found your memorial for Gerald and wanted to mention an first marriage to Bernice Wetzel on 23 June 1928 in Los Angeles when he was 24. It's on and his parents are listed as R.W. Sutcliff and Geraldine Purdy. The certificate lists this as his first marriage. It also lists Bernice Wetsel as first marriage but she has a child William "Billy" Corder. Bill Corder is the subject of my research. I can't locate Bill's mother Bernice Wetzel anywhere! Seems Bill went into foster care at some point in time but nobody knows why/when/where. Any leads would be appreciated! Thanks, Cynthia

Chatfield in Section 31
I only found Arthur Chatfield in Section 31. There were no other Chatfield stones found in this section.

Chatfield T. Bates Father George
Hi Catherine-

I sent a relationship link edit for the Bates family. If you would like I could send you a link to Dr. George W. Bates obituary write-up from the Schenectady (NY) Gazette Sept. 13, 1929 which names his children and both of his wives. I recently obtained a military photo of him and have been doing a little research. He was a prominent area doctor & surgeon. His son Chatfield was an area judge and Sylvia was an author.

Thank You,

I'd be happy to add or correct information for which you provide "source and documentation that proves the update" per findagrave guidelines. Thanks very much.
