Bio and Links
Bio Photo Researching one's genealogy is a bit like a treasure hunt. As you learn more and more about your ancestors, surprises keep occuring. I am thankful to all the people who have taken the time to research the past. I aim to contribute as well. I am working on my Peck ancestry which goes back to Joseph and some of his immigrant sons who arrived in 1638. Other names include Vanderwerker, Van Patten, Shoup/Shoop/Schupp, McNeil, Cramer, Paine/Payne, McDougall, Lant, Reid, Reed, Campbell, Wagman, Foster, Cushman, Grandy, Bartlett, Haverly, Duesler, Snell, Wendell, Glen, Hawley, Harmon, etc. I get great satisfaction in discovering and entering these historical records, before they are lost for good. Most of my entries are in MA, RI, CT and upstate NY where I live. I am a retired HS biology and chem. teacher. I have completed 10 Earthwatch expeditions and travelled to over 60 countries. Climbing mountains is also appealing having been up Kilimanjaro, Whitney, Olympus, Rysy, Ben Nevis, Algonquin, Marcy and others. Genealogy is another fun and productive way to spend my time.
One of my great joys is to visit villages where my ancestors lived before coming to America. In 2010 I visited Hingham and Beccles, England where the paternal Pecks lived in the 1500 and 1600's. We also visited Petten, Holland for the maternal Van Pattens and Meppel, Holland for the Van Alstynes and Vanderwerkers. In 2012 I visited Scotland for the McNeils and Reids and then the Mozel River Valley in the Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany for the Shoups/Schupps and Mais lines. In 2015 we were in Scotland again at the Campbell Castle in Inverary and to the Campbell Crypt in Kilum, Scotland. 2016 took us to Norway for the Bradts, Northern Ireland for the Beatties and Largs, Scotland for the Brisbins.

Hi Dave,

For Deborah C. Cooper Peck and husband Hezekia, do you have any known recorded marriage date? Also, your memorial has Deborah's parents as Thomas Cooper and Mary Kingsbury. I have found Mary's birth recorded as Sept. 1, 1637, Dedham, MA, daughter to Joseph and Millicent. Any known recorded marriage date for Thomas and Mary (if you agree they are her parents)? Thanks.

Marie and Bruce Newell
Union Cemetery, Ft. Edward, NY
Hi Dave,
We respectfully request permission to use the cemetery entrance photo in our online tree with credit. Marie has a cousin interred there and the photo will make a great addition.

Thanks for your consideration.

RE: Orra Phelps
I think we're 5th cousin twice removed. So not that close. She's on the scene a century after my Parkers left, but it sounds so fresh in her book.

Jannetje Vrooman
The information that you have for her is not correct. There were two Jannetje Vrooman's born in Schenectady, New York. This Jannetje married Simon VanPetten, but you have the vitals for the other Jannetje. #1 Jannetje was baptized 2 August 1730 and her parents were Henrick Adamse Vrooman and Marytje Wemple and married Simon. The #2 Jannetje Vrooman are the parents of Hendrick and Engeltje Slingerland, with the correct vitals as on your site.
Thank you for your great work!!

RE: Jacob Demouth
Oh! I did not know there was a map associated with the cemetery name. That alone is a big help for all my other research! Thanks. That's probably all I need. I'm not too shy to knock on someone's door to ask permission to walk on their land. ;-)

You wrote: "The photos you added to he above entrée 143656926 are actually for Jacob Van Hoesen 138466167. If you have time it would be great if you could go and clean that stone to be sure."

The photos for George Van Hoesen 143656926 are recognizably for George. The one for Jacob 138466167 with the lichen has an emblem nearby (seen to the left of the stone in the photo) recognizing him as Revolutionary War hero. I could read only part of the inscription but the dates matched. I don't clean stones. The location is given for someone else to try if they want.
