Bio and Links
Bio Photo My interest in genealogy began at an early age while sitting on my grandfathers knee listening as he would talk about how his grandmother and grandfather came from Germany. I always wanted to know more. That desire just grew as I realized there were a couple of family mysteries floating around...

After years of collecting information, I am finally at a place where I am able to devote time to my research and see where everything fits. I believe that documenting the wealth of information that may be obtained from a cemetery not only assists in my research, but preserves the information for future generations. I enjoy sharing information with other fellow researchers.

My paternal family lines include Beard, Henne, Porter and Swalley, and my maternal family lines incl Daggett, Halfacre, Jones, Payne and Weems. Although my family began in various parts of the country, all lines have been in Marion County Illinois since 1900.

BF McLaughlin
Question for you Sheila
You took a photo of Samuel P. Seiber in Marion County at Bell Cemetery.

I'm Brian McLaughlin with Footprints Magazine in Marion County. Could I have your permission to put that photo in our magazine? And give you credit as the photographer?

If this is a problem, I understand, but wanted to ask!

Hope all is well! Thanks!

Swalley - Bobbitt Relation
Hi Sheila,
Just came across the grave of Martin VB Swalley on this site. His daughter Lola was my great grandmother (my fathers fathers mother). I occasionally look up my ancestors but was pleased to see what a thorough job you have done in listing so much information. Thank you! I live in Orland Park Illinois. I will be reading other postings this evening. So excited to find this page! - Donna

You have a headstone photo for Arminda. Would you mind posting it for her husband too?

Thanks so much!

Link James Alston Weems
Hi Sheila--
How ya been?! It's been a while since we communicated. Wondering if you'd please link James Alston Weems as the father of George Washington Weems. James' Find A Grave memorial # is 30073018.

Thanks so much for all the good Find A Grave work you do! If you need any help managing the graves we have in common, I'd be glad to have any transferred to me.

Your 2nd cousin,

Hilda & William Bray - Photo
Hi, Sheila. Thank you so much for your photo of Hilda & William Bray's headstone. They are my great great grandmother & her second husband.

I'm so glad you found them. My grandmother remembers traveling downstate for Hilda's funeral, but was hazy on the exact location as it was so long ago. The death certificate said she was to be buried in Iuka Cemetery, Iuka, Marion.

I'm assuming you live in or near Marion County. if you have a spare minute, would you mind giving me your opinion/experience? Has Snow Hill Cemetery sometimes been refereed to as Iuka Cemetery? Or is one the offshoot of the other? Are either affiliate w/ a particular religion or were the public? I'm just trying to figure out the discrepancy in the burial locations. I believe William may have been a preacher of some sort. Perhaps when he passed away a decade later, Hilda was moved to join him?

Thanks again for your efforts. I really appreciate all your time and hard work!

The only genealogical info in the obit was put on the entry. I am not familiar with the family so I wouldn't have any other info. Thanks.

RE: Draper
Grace Elizabeth Jones (dod - 1985) was married to Amos Cort Draper (dod - 1963) , who was Ezra Draper's mother. We do have a Delbert Draper, plus Ruth Jean Draper could be my husband's sister.

The Draper family has a lot of information entered into I tried to get onto Geni but seem to be having trouble tonight

I'm finding between nicknames has put a snag in a couple of research items but I'm finding a lot of information on Terry's and my family on But I'm not diving into the cousins and people related by marriage after I get the groundwork done.

If you can give me some dates and names I'll might be able to find some into on Ancestry for you.
