Dearest Ann,

As an avid fan of Hercule Poirot, I would be delighted to help.

The easiest (on my little gray cells) method would be to transfer my memorial to your care. Do with it, and the photo I took, as you will.

Happy graving!

re: #17323647, George Washington Branning
Ann - I have an affidavit/deposition written in 1969 by Branning family members concerning a family cemetery plot, but some things just don't seem to add up, and I am wondering if you have ever found evidence that GW Branning and wife Mary Ellen possibly had a child named George Branning, Jr....I will try to paste it here, but I don't know how well the formatting will work.

AFFIDAVIT OF HEIRSHIP AND CONSENT TO REMOVAL

STATE OF FLORIDA
COUNTY OF DUVAL

Before us, the undersigned authorities, personally appeared (in the fashion below stated) MARY BRANNING CARTER, BERTHA BRANNING TONE,/MARY LOUISE OOSTERHOUDT CASE and FRANK OOSTERHOUDT, who, being duly sworn, deposed and said:
1. Graves numbered 1-8, inclusive, of Lot 12, Section E, Greenlawn Cemetery, are currently registered in the name of Louis Jesse Branning, the now deceased brother of the deponents, Mary Branning Carter and Bertha Branning Tone, and cousin of the deponents, Mary Louise Oosterhoudt Case and Frank Oosterhoudt.
2. Louis Jesse Branning departed this life at Miami, Florida, on or about October 8, 1957; and his mortal remains were buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in that city.
3. Mary E. Branning and Thomas Jesse Branning, mother and father, respectively, of the aforesaid Louis Jesse Branning and the deponents, Bertha Branning Tone and Mary Branning Carter, are buried in the aforesaid graves numbered 1 and 2.
4. Joan Tone, infant daughter of John F. Tone and Bertha Branning Tone, who are brother-in-law and sister, respectively, of the deponent, Mary Branning Carter, is buried in grave number 5, aforesaid.
5. Otto J. Muhlbacher, a brother-in-law of the aforesaid Thomas Jesse Branning, and, thus, the uncle of all the deponents, is buried in grave number 4, aforesaid. He died on or about April 20, 1940; and he was buried on that date.
6. The aforesaid Louis Jesse Branning, each of the deponents, and Otto J. Oosterhoudt, the now deceased brother of deponents, Frank Oosterhoudt and Mary Louise Oosterhoudt Case, were the sole surviving heirs at law and next of kin of the aforesaid Otto J. Muhlbacher; and the deponents herein are now the only surviving next of kin of the said Otto J. Muhlbacher, and, thus, all persons who would be authorized to consent or entitled to object to a removal of his mortal remains from one grave site to another.
7. Deponent, Mary Branning Carter, desires that, upon her demise, she be buried next to her mother and father, aforesaid, in Grave No. 3. She further desires that her husband, Guy M. Carter, upon his death, be buried next to her in Grave No. 4. To accomplish those desires, it would take a removal of the mortal remains of the aforesaid Otto J. Muhlbacher from one grave to another; but all within the same grave lot, to-wit, from grave No. 4 to grave No. 8 (an adjacent grave) all within the aforesaid Lot 3, Section E, Greenlawn Cemetery.
8. Each other deponent consents and agrees that such removal be accomplished, but only at the expense of the said Guy M. Carter and Mary Branning Carter, his wife. All deponents agree and consent that Greenlawn Cemetery and each of its officers, agents, employees and servants may accomplish the removal herein designated; and each deponent consents and agrees that he will indemnify and hold harmless the said Greenlawn Cemetery and each of its officers, agents, servants or employees, who, in any way, consents to or assists in the accomplishment of the removal aforesaid.
9. The aforesaid Bertha Branning Tone is now unable to sign her name to this document by reason of continuing physical infirmity and by reason of a sometimes want of mental capacity. Her signature and consent are added and given by her sister, the aforesaid Mary Branning Carter, who, with her husband, Guy M. Carter, further agrees to and does hereby, indemnify and agree to hold harmless the aforesaid Greenlawn Cemetery, all agents, officers, employees, or servants thereof, and each other deponent, by reason of such manner of execution, and they agree to pay expenses incident to the relocation above referred.

We know that George W. Branning and wife Mary Ellen are buried in Middleburg, and Thomas Jessup Branning and wife Mary H. Gaines are buried in Green Cove Springs. There is also a Thomas Jessup Branning and wife buried in Jacksonville in the plot as listed, but the lawyer in #3 that "Thomas Jesse Branning and wife Mary E. Branning" are the parents of:
1. Bertha Branning Tone
2. Mary Branning Carter
3. Louis Jesse Branning
4. Grace Branning Muhlbacher (not listed, but implied as wife of Otto J. Muhlbacher)
Also listed as "cousins" of 1-4 above are Mary Louise Oosterhoudt Case and Frank Oosterhoudt (these two were my paternal grandfather's siblings), but my grandfather, MLO Case and Frank O. above are the children of Samuel Arthur Oosterhoudt and wife Mary "Mamie" Branning, who is, according to obits I have and what my family told me, the daughter of Thomas Jessup Branning, so it seems that there is a step missing somewhere, so I thought possibly that there was a missing sibling for Thomas Jessup Branning and Mary Ellen Branning...does any of this make sense to you? My regular email is gcoregistrar at aol, so you can write me there. Thanks for all of your work!!!

No, unfortunately all it said was "Philadelphia Cemetery." But if I find it I will let you know.

Common Ground
Hi Ann,

I'm a Five generation Floridian from the St. Petersburg area. I lived in Kingwood TX for several years in the early to mid 1990's. Seems Kingwood to new to have much of a History there when I was there. Humble is a different story perhaps.

My FL background is all Key West and Celtic/Anglo ancestry from the Bahamas. Have any information?

RE: Queen Blitch
Hi Ann,
Sorry for the delay. I'm just checking my emails for the 1st time in 9 days! Queen Ann (Croft) Blitch was the sister-in-law of my husband's maternal 1st cousin 4x removed - so that would be Queen's sister, Mary (Croft), was married to Hezekiah Daniel Shaw.
