I became interested in researching my family tree in about 1987. A very important tool in my research "tool chest" has always been visiting cemeteries and photographing stones of family members. In about 2006 my sister, Mona, and I decided to post our many cemetery pictures with short bios to findagrave. We tag-team, I post the information and she posts the pictures. There are very few of our original memorials that are not our family members. However, there have been instances when I've photographed other stones while in a given cemetery and have gone ahead and posted those. We felt they might help someone looking for that person. I also photographed the entire Walker Cemetery in Mt. View MO one year while there for a family reunion. For those not in my family, I would be glad to transfer management, but only to a family member within the find a grave guidelines. Racking up large numbers of entries are not our bag, but creating well presented memorials for our loved ones is. Our DIRECT family lines (parents thru 2nd great-grandparents) are: Father-Simmons (Chennault, King, Thomas, Coburn, Tiller, James, Johnson); Mother-Stokes (Miller, Vassar, Walker, Thornton, McMurray, Bryson). Plus we're constantly finding other "kin folk" as we work back through the generations.

RE: Alva Hale
Thanks Pat. I found a notation in a publication by Gary Hale (which is a great reference for my research) and in it there is a notation that Tessie Hale (Alva's sister) is the person who told the researcher that Alva spelled his middle name "Justus" - I guess we're not the only ones with questions! I will be happy to email this to you if you are interested, however it is a very large PDF file. Thanks again!

RE: Alva Hale
Hi Pat, thank you for contacting me. I understand your hesitation to change the name since his death certificate does say "Alva Jestus". I can't find any paper documentation giving the "Justus" spelling. However, he was my great-uncle and I know he was named for his grandfather "Allen Justus Hale". I will try to track down something - maybe one of his descendants will have something. By the way, that's not the only typo on the death certificate. It lists Alva's mother's maiden name as "Sarah Tile". Her name was "Sarah Stiles". Thank you for maintaining this record - this is a great service!

I changed the birth date. The original was from an listing of burials at Fort Knox and may not have been accurate.

Felix Chenault
What do you make of this?

Gonzales Inquirer Nov. 20, 1902

The father of Felix Chenault, killed in the difficulty, was Alanson Chenault , a half brother of Messrs. L. and Charles Chenault of this city. He lived in Gonzales for a number of years, but moved to Orange shortly after the war. Citizens of this town who knew the family speak of them most highly, and especially the father. Felix Chenault leaves a mother and two brothers.

Three Men Are Shot At Orange.

Felix Cheanult, City Marshal Joe Jordon and Tony Jones are dDead and Will Harris is in Jail.

Thanks for the info on the family. Maybe one of the kids will have a county history bio or something that speaks of Canzada's family. Sometimes you can go backwards in a line by going forwards! ;-)

Hi Pat,

I see you left flowers for John Chenault, buried near Ladoga, Indiana. Just wondered if you knew anything about his wife, Canzada Crane. I'm working on determining if/how various Cranes in Montgomery County are related. I know it's a long shot, but it's worth asking. Thanks!

RE: Reeves Relatives
Hi Pat,
I don't know if I ever responded to your message or not. If not here goes.

I am aware of Wesley Whitfield Reeves. Yes, we are distantly related. His grandfather, Wesley Reeves is my ggg uncle. His father, Robert Milton Reeves, was born on Sugar Creek in Hickman County, TN. I have visited the area many times and know a little about where they lived on Sugar Creek. My paternal grandmother, Docia Forrester, was also born on Sugar Creek.
