Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am researching the Thornton family and the descendants of Birdsong/Burdsong Thornton. His Children are Spencer S, Henry Jackson, Seaborn Jefferson, Abedango, Lucius Columbus, George W, Bluford B, John T, Francis M, Rufus, Martha, Mary, Lellie C, and Parthena J Thornton. As I find someone who is descended from one I put them in their respective virtual cemetery. My direct ancestor is Spencer S. Thornton, his first wife Elizabeth M. Robinson, his 2nd wife Elizabeth Jane Grant. The combined children from the two marriages are: Sarah Elizabeth (Costley), Henrietta (Costley), Rosa (Cosley), Mary Jane, Georgia Ann, William Adelbert, Thomas Grady, and Henry Brantley Thornton. I am also related to the Smith, Brannan, Garrett, Grant, Carmichael, Brittain, Shinn and Hamilton families through my different grandmothers. I started researching my tree in 1975. Still have a lot of work to do with it, but I'm getting close to having it finished.I have one virtual cemetery for those who chose to be cremated, cemetery unknown and buried at sea. As I find other relatives that are related and are already entered I put them in the virtual cemetery of how they are related. As an example, Russell Gibbs was already listed in South Carolina. I added him to the virtual cemeteries of Thomas Grady Thornton and the Thornton Family. Also, Russell will only appear in my virtual cemeteries and not under the list of the memorials I've entered. All the memorials that I have added are members of my family line.

Thornton Family Line
Dear Mr Thornton:

I am trying to tie in Birdsong Thornton's branch with my Thornton family line. Who were his parents? When did the family move to Georgia? Did they start in Virginia?

I also have been fascinated with your Korean POW Lt. Cordus Hamilton Thornton who was killed during the Tiger Death March in 1950. It has sparked my interest in that entire part of our US history. It is a story that our younger generations need to know. Thank you in advance,
Andrea Poynter McDaniel

Venora Brannan Ray passed away
Venora died 23 Feb 2016. Her brother Cordis does not appear as a sibling in the FindAGrave listing I just checked. She was Venora (Mother can't recall her middle name, but it was not Inez--that is her half sister) Brannan, and her brother Cordis was born on 16 June of 1931. Less than 2 wks after Cordis was born, his mother Lilla/Liller Porter Brannan (sister to the anaher Porter that married Uncle Raymond) died. (June 1931, or so they tell me).
After Lilla Porter Brannan died, Uncle Roy (Roy Patrick Brannan) married again and had Inez and Hollis, so he had 2 son/daughter combos by both wives. His second wife was Annie Patterson.

Keep up the good work!

Rubilee Thornton
Hi, I wonder if you might have a photo of Rubilee Thornton (1892-1974) and her husband Horace Grantley West (1883-1963). He is a second cousin and we're trying to identify some of the old family photos.
Thanks,
Michael Taylor

Hi, I'm doing a collection of WWI casualties and this fella's ww1 record doesn't mention burial at sea. His outfit arrived in France 4 days before his death date(see photos on his memorial), so I'm wondering what indicates that he was buried at sea, if you please.
