RE: Owners of Higginbotham Family Cemetery, Owens Farm Road, Yulee
When you do the dedication of the marker, you may want to invite representatives from the local DAR chapter.

Our goal is Education, Conservation, and Preservation. Our motto is God, Family, and Country.

Ten cent bio on the other four patriots:

Amos Latham buried in Bosque Bello Cemetery on the island and was the first lighthouse keeper on Amelia Island. No one has ever joined DAR on this line. I asked and their interest is in the war fought 1861-1865, so that is that. By the way, he is a New Englander. Has NSDAR marker.

John Vaughan is buried on the south end of the island in Vaughan Cemetery with several unmarked graves. He and Harrison had huge sea cotton plantations and slaves on the south end of the island. He lived to see the Civil War start and was born in New England. Has NSDAR marker very recently done.

John Perlot was born in SC and an old man during the Revolutionary War. One person has joined DAR on this line and it is believed that he is buried in the Vaughan Cemetery but most won't go for the NSDAR marker due to lack of documentation. He grandchildren married into the Vaughan and Harrison families.

John Lowe died in Nassau Co and believed is buried on his land on the west side of the county on the river....others say he was buried in Suwanee Co. I don't know. Dianne Parfitt did a lot of work on that line.

Gruppy and Dot Higgibotham were the ones that the DAR worked with when the NSDAR marker was put on the new grave marker 2007??. The old one said that the people were "greatful" for his service. :)

This year, the local DAR chapter is planning a marker on Atlantic Ave on Amelia Island naming all five of the Revolutionary War patriots known to be buried in the county.

Civil war cemetery
Hi John,
I see you are a history buff and was wondering if you could confirm this for me..... I was told that there is a old Civil War Cemetery on Lannie Road just pass or around the National cemetery. It is suppose to have only civil war soldiers that were killed around this area during a battle. If this is true do you know where it is located? The person who told me was a officer with JSO who worked about 40 years ago and retired now. He said it is in a wooded area that unless you know where it is you would never know it was out there. He was unable to ride out to show me as his health is bad. Thanks, Saundra
