Social Life is the aggregate of all the individual men's Lives who constitute society; History is the essence of innumerable Biographies. |
- An oft-quoted "admission" by Thomas Carlyle in his 1830 essay On History
Originally, the Christian names, maiden names, surnames and dates which appear as titles for these Find A Grave cyber-memorials, and by which these entries are indexed, were as they appear on the stones and, in some instances, on undertaker markers (because, ordinarily, inscriptions are primary evidence for the individuals memorialized in these cemeteries, at least when placed by contemporaries).
Over time, I've begun to enter the transcriptions, so that now, many memorials include maiden names and full names (and additional dates and places) where they can be added with a high degree of confidence. The "Bio" sections may include genealogical deductions which are based on a number of documents, including both primary evidence and secondary sources.
The on-line availability of Georgia death certificates from 1919-1930 allows us to add memorials for burials for which no stone or marker was found in a cemetery (more than a hundred such entries), and allows us to supplement the information for burials which do have extant stones or undertaker markers.
Inevitably, mistakes occur; I very much appreciate your leaving me a message, via the Edit tab, when you notice misreadings, misidentifications, or other errors in the memorials, including misdirections for the embedded links. I will do my best to make corrections promptly and, when practicable, to verify the information. To the extent possible, I ask that you use the Edit tab with EACH memorial; those requests are already linked, so there are no extra steps nor misunderstandings about which memorial is involved (it has happened). For transfer requests, I can only ask that you refer to the FindAGrave guidelines (Example: Direct relatives within four generations; this would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren).
May God Bless Each of You and Your Families †
Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Philippians 4:4-9 KJV
NOTICE: My years of care for my father are at an end; we've buried his body, he has gone on to Glory. As related affairs are settled, I turn more of my attention to FindAGrave. Some folks have requested edits, additions, corrections, &c. The number of such requests was not quite "legion," but it was getting there (again, the Edit tab is quite helpful). Please understand that your aid is valued and will get consideration in due time. I thank many of you for your patience, and now for your understanding. For the very few with that snide attitude that requires pointedly commenting yet "AGAIN," I apologize for your extreme anguish and have reason to regret your inability to realize that life exists beyond FindAGrave, that there are "seasons of life" (your pastor can help you with that concept), and that we gravers and genealogists are sometimes reminded that the living (and the dying) most likely should come ahead of the dead.

Do you have any info on his parents. I am related to Honora way down the line. Do you know where they are buried? My great grandmother is Mary Honor Sikes Smith. Thank you!
|Nancy Harrington||James Marsh|
In the record of James Marsh, 1849-1898, his mother is listed as Susan A. McKinney. Can you tell me anything about her parents or siblings? How do you know that her middle initial is 'A.'
|Mary ||Georgia Ann eliza Bryan Black|
I just sent in an edit for memorial 32189451. I added her mother's grave memorial number, 44219329. Her mother was Nancy "Ann" Dell Boston Bryan Williamson. Her father was Solomon Crawford bryan but I haven't discovered where he is buried. This is my husband's family and information comes from family records. Thank you.

I am a Burns descendant. Do you have any information on the John Burns who was in the 1820 census in Screven Co.? I am trying to find out if he is related to the Thomas, Jonah, and Thomas H. Burns family. Thanks. Virginia

|Elhura||Name of Church|
Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery, Screven County, GA, has the word Methodist mispelled, making general Find-a-Grave searches void. This is true for Ira Franks' burial and apparently for others. Thanks for making the correction.

|Catherine Carter||Isaac Morris & Family|
I was wondering if you had any further information on Isaac Morris (89893869), his wife, I believe is Sallie B Morris (89893840). Their children were Lewis A "Sandy" Morris (43302989) and Haley L Morris Sr. (43302464). Are you related? How did you get the photos?
His brother, we believe is Richard Charles Morris (1857-1932) (26738999).
We have been looking for Isaac's parents for quite awhile.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
|Virginia Williams||RE: ARCHER Screven County, Georgia|
I see somebody has listed my father as a son of Homer and Essie, he is actually a grandson. He is the son of Fred Lamar Archer and Ada Mae Bates, She is from CT and my father, Wesley Fred Archer was born there. I have a copy of his birth certificate and name is Fred, not Fredrick.
