Brainerd, Brainard and Braynard are 99% interchangeable, though our immigrant ancestor's (Daniel Brainerd 1641-1715) grave marker is spelled Brainerd. See memorial # 47491853. Several lines started changing to ARD in the mid-1800s. Braynard was someone's attempt to be different. My line through William has consistently spelled it ERD.|

Memorial # 139361603 in Golf Course Road, Dillsburg Cemetery. Do you know if Donna and Melvin have been moved. When placing flags this year I can't find their headstones.
|Walter Jants||Herman E. Brainard|
Herman was my uncle through his wife, Margaret Elizabeth "Peg" Smithwick. Uncle's Find a Grave number is 108066517, and Aunt Peg's is 108066542. His full name: Herman Edwin Louis Brainard, or Herman E. L. Brainard as he usually signed it. He had a varied career: worked for Florida timber companies during the depression and was highly regarded for sharpening the huge 2 man manual saws. He worked for the Igou Chrysler Dodge dealership in Eustis, FL beginning before WW2 until his retirement in the late 1960's or early 1970's. He was also famous as a gunsmith and had clients from all over Florida, and some from other states. He and Aunt Peg adopted my mother's brother, William Sproles, during the tough depression years raising him as their own with their own daughter. As an aside, I stayed with them many weekends while in college at Stetson University in DeLand, FL, and they made the round trip to get me many times. Aunt Peg finally got tired of it, called a good friend who had a "cute little girl" attending Stetson, and you can guess the rest of the story!!. (We have been married 49 years.) Oh yes, he is listed by many as born in Olioville, KY, but his 16 Feb 1942 Draft Registration Card has Louisa, KY, in the same county. Wonder which it was. Hope this helps characterize a wonderful man.

I have completed the edits you requested. Would you like this memorial transferred to you?

I have come across a family Bible listing the Samuel S. Gardner family. Also listed is Harry Brainerd as the husband of Mary Gertrude Gardner. Are you related to this branch? I want to get this back to a family member. Any suggestions?

I accepted your edits. I added his obit from the Springfield newspaper, which stated he died in Menlo Park, Ca., so I also added that. Thanks for the edits.
