Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been doing genealogy for over 21 years. Been married for 56 years, have 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great grand daughter. Am so glad to share this info and pictures with families of those I have listed. Genealogy is all about helping each other--a two-way street. Grave stones are one of the best ways to locate family information. There is now a trend to only use years on stones....please do what you can to keep this from happening so future researchers will be able to get complete dates.

RE: Date
Thanks for responding. Probably not the same person. I never knew my father, but spoke with him before he recently passed away. His marriage license says his father's name was Leo Mitchem (sp). I cannot find but one Leo Mitchem. The dates are wrong though. My father was born in 1940, and his brother was born in 1936, I think. I really have almost no information on my father's family. My grandmother was Anna Mae Richards. She had many other married names. Mitchem, Brown, McManus, Jackson, Wilson. You probably get the idea. I thought that perhaps it was possible that your leo Mitchem was the one I was looking for. Extremely hard to search for someone when you don't have a name. Plus, I am incredible new to this ancestry game.

My mistake. I double checked and saw one was yours and the other was another contributor's. So I sent them to F-a-G and asked them to merge them.

RE: Annie C. Bailey Ledford
I looked for Annie's parents but didn't find them. I have added Annie's sister to Find A Grave. She is also buried at Bess Chapel, Mary Margaret Manning.

New Release
Hi Rachel,
My new WBTS book has been released by the Olde Buncombe Genealogical Society. It is now available and I wanted you to read it. You can find it online at OBCGS.com. This represents 12 long years of work, writing and research, so it's a long awaited victory. The book is titled, Mountain Conflict; The Union Army Finally Reaches Asheville. Be sure to pass it on to your comrades and friends as well.
Thanks,

Jeff

My great uncle is buried in this cemetery. Can you please post a picture of his grave marker. It would be much appreciated!

RE: Posted flower for kids
Rachel,
Thank you for visiting these memorials. A couple of the clues for this event came to me from Suzannah McCuen, which prompted me to do more research. Up until recently, the memorial for these three children was rolled up into one memorial. After learning their names, I gave them each a separate memorial. The facts in this case were not easily found, but I just kept hounding libraries, universities and historical centers until I could put this tragedy on the memorial for Jay. The images that went through my mind about that October night, were disturbing to say the least. I have heard some horror stories, but this one got to me. I would not let it go until I could write that Bio.
Thanks again,

Jeff
