|Bio and Links|
Former volunteer & board member of Montgomery's first cemetery authority. For the last nine years I have worked at photographing, transcribing, seeking out records & descendants in various cemeteries. Even though I have been doing genealogical research for twenty-five years I can and do make mistakes.|
A huge shout out to those understand the passion and commitment to cemetery preservation, thank you for sharing your knowledge, encouraging, educating & helping me in my pursuit of the history in our bone yards. My contributions to this website could not have been made without them.
The Stolen Marker
This tiny one week old infant's marker, taken from her grave in New Cahawba sometime in the 1960's, will always be a high point in my preservation efforts which occurred during a tumultuous period during which I became a target of harassment due to my contributions to this website.
Mary Louisa Portis
LeeAnne Wofford, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer at the Alabama Historical Commission, provided me with a rubbing of her ledger shortly before it was taken into their custody. She is a friend of the Lincoln Cemetery [now Montgomery] Rehabilitation Authority and because of our work together on that, a friend of mine. It hangs above my desk as a reminder of all the good I have done for cemeteries in Montgomery, regardless of what others think of me and to persevere even in the face of great adversity.
BIOS AND EDITS
Please be patient, I have a life outside of this website and all edits will be handled within the time frame set forth by Find A Grave. Links to burial unknowns will be declined. Contributors have thirty days to determine the final deposition. Please don't leave biographical information in virtual flowers. I am always happy to add information as long as it isn't cut and paste records, is true and lends dignity to the memorial for which it is intended. I do not add graphic details. Regardless of their color, station, manner of death, religion everyone of them have earned the right to sleep in peace, all their earthly trails and sins blotted out by death.
Please refer to the guidelines. Management of every single person in your family tree simply is not possible. Collateral lineage will always be a factor. I do not transfer out of guidelines. As long as the information contained therein is accurate and true why does it matter who manages it? If it's not, drop me a line.
Please bear in mind that Ancestry's acquisition of Find A Grave does not negate it's primary purpose: documentation of final deposition. It is a collaboration of two excellent resources for genealogical research and as such there are a lot of contributors to this website, please do not assume I am the source of any erroneous information contained in memorials. I try very hard to be accurate but mistakes do happen.
In my humble opinion the greatest evolution of this great website is the family links.
If you wish to use mine or any other contributor's photos, please just ask, making sure to credit the photographer because there are some incredibly good ones here. Regardless of how you feel about it, those 30 thousand photos represent nine years of unpaid labor for myself personally. It is about respect & courtesy for the person who took the shot. A sincere shout out to those who beat the bushes photographing markers on my behalf.
