Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a bit of a fan of history and I love the history you find in cemeteries. My favorites are the old pioneer cemeteries of the west.

Why do I do Find a Grave? For those of you that are looking for forgotten relatives, loved ones, friends and family, I just want to say to you that I do what I do here on Find A Grave, for you. No one should be forgotten! We may not all be rich, or famous, or powerful, or have invented great things but we all made a difference in some way and we deserve to be remembered for the differences we've made. If just by creating a memorial page, I feel that I have done something to remember that person and that they did live and that they did matter.

The information on the memorials that I have created is only as good as the information I had to work with from the beginning. I am sure that there are many mistakes and I will correct every one that I can but if fellow contributor finds something wrong that still needs to be corrected, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Transfers: If you are interested, just ask! I am not hung up on the policies, all that is important to me is that you are better able to add to the memorial than I am. You don't have to be directly related, just willing and able to make the page better.

Photos: There is no need to ask permission to use the photos that I post unless it is to be for commercial purposes. I take these photographs for you so please, use them as you need to. All that I ask is that you source and credit them properly.

To all the Find a Grave photographers out there: if you have a picture to post that is better than one that I have posted, please do and then let me know. If I agree, I will gladly remove mine in order to avoid cluttering up the memorial page.

Someday I know I'll have my own headstone and if I am lucky enough, this is the epitaph that will be on it: (I didn't write it, but I'll be happy to use it)

The Measure of a Man

Not "How did he die?"
But, "How did he live?"
Not "What did he gain?"
But, "What did he give?"
These are the units
to measure the worth
of a man, as a man,
regardless of birth.
Not "What was his station?
But, "Had he a heart?"
And "How did he play
his God given part?"
Was he ever ready
with a word of good cheer,
to bring back a smile,
to banish a tear?'
Not "What was his church?"
Nor "What was his creed?"
But, "Had he befriended
those really in need?"
Not "What did the sketch
in the newspaper say?"
But "How many were sorry
when he passed away!"

But, at the end of the day, if all my headstone reads is "He was a good man" then, I will be happy with that too!

If you're still reading, maybe you'd like to stop by and say Hi! to some very special friends. They are missed everyday! Belle, Sophie and Casey.

I found some great information on how to take a picture of a headstone. I am passing this site along because I feel that a good, clear picture is always what the viewer wants. Not something that is just good enough. The site is How To Get Great Photos For Find a Grave.

Thanks for stopping by!

It appears there is the same Name in find a grave 3 times. Yours and two others all have the same dates, but different family information.
This can be confusing. I will leave it to you to sort as desired!
Here are the three Find a Grave numbers he can be found under:

RE: Percy Phillips - Eastonville Cemetery
Thank you so very much Ron for your efforts. I thought it might be long shot that Percy would have a headstone, considering his circumstances, he was young, single and no family in the area, but I thought it was worth a try. I do appreciate you checking on this for me and am very grateful. I can put this one to rest now knowing that at least an effort was made.

Thanks again,

a duplicate & please help
Mr. West, In the attempt to link my deceased uncle's memorial to those of his wives, I have encountered a stumbling block. You hold the first memorial for his second wife, made in 2011 - 72459919.
Another member has made one for her also, made in 2013, 118186272 -both these memorials are linked to her first husband, 70318028, also your memorial.
I would like to link my uncle to her, 68032102, but realize there needs to be some work beforehand. Could you work with the other member to get those merged or some compromise made?
I am still working on the dates of all 3 of his marriages, and the death dates of the wives...
Thanks for any help you can provide.

RE: Lewis E Jones
Knowing the info is from the genealogical society is helpful. Thank you! And yes, I too think your Lewis Jones is the correct one.

RE: Lewis E Jones
You're welcome! Since I wrote, I found this letter from Jones that confirms (to me, at least), that your entry is correct. See pp. 36-37.

And a question for you, just to satisfy my own curiosity: have you seen the grave marker you recorded, or is this an entry based on outside info?

Hey Ron

I fulfilled your request for Amy today.

This was kind of personal for me, as I went to High School with her uncle's. I was a Senior in High School when this tragic story played out. I still live in Camarillo, and remember how this rocked the city. Such a sad thing to have a young innocent child kidnapped, tortured and murdered.

Hi Ron,

Thank you so very much .... that is very kind of you. I will be most grateful for anything at all that you might be able to find out. I wonder if possibly his gravestone or marker (if there is one) might have the name "Billy" Phillips on it as from the obit. that is what his friends called him. Just a thought when you inquire about him.

Thanks again,

This Old Scarecrow
Hello Ron West,
Please allow me to thank you once again for graciously transferring the memorials for George Plummer, and his wife Birdie (Meeks) Plummer.
I've made some additions, tweaks, and links...they're both now solid and help define their place in the research I'm doing in eastern Travis County, Texas.
As for good headstone images...I also strive for the perfect photograph. I've been photographing a number of small African-American cemeteries in my neighborhood; many of which have never been documented. I'll photograph some four or five times until I'm happy, depending on lighting conditions and shadows. I never take a mere snapshot - but a portrait I can place name on with confidence.
Best to you Ron.
