Cemeteries are "a memorial and a record. (They are) not a mere field in which the dead are stowed away unknown; it is a touching and beautiful history, written in family burial plots, in mounded graves, in sculptured and inscribed monuments. (They tell) the story of the past, not of its institutions, or its wars, or its ideas, but of its individual lives,--of its men and women and children, and of its household. (A cemetery) is silent, but eloquent; it is common, but it is unique. We find no such history elsewhere; there are no records in all the wide world in which we can discover so much that is suggestive, so much that is pathetic and impressive." ~~ Joseph Anderson, American clergyman (1836-1916) |
For a very touching poem, see "Dear Ancestor" by Walter Butler Palmer.

I believe obituaries provide much needed genealogical information that if not captured will be lost. With the increase in cremations, obituaries might be all that outlives our ancestors. Since obituaries are already published in newspapers and on the internet, anonymity has already been compromised.

|Linda McDaniel||Trellis Fay Sellers|
We have been to Emory's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery looking for Trellis Fay Sellers' grave. She died on August 30, 1967. We were unable to find her grave so it must be unmarked. Do you know of any way to find out exactly where she is buried? I noticed that you have a memorial number on her information. What exactly is this number? We appreciate any information you can give us on this. Thanks so much.

Hi, Linda - I hope you're doing well. I have a question for you regarding an image you posted on Mem. #102200247 for W. W. McGEHEE (buried 23 OCT 1901, aged 35 years). I wondered where you got the graphic showing what Sexton-system lots (C-565, etc.) make up the HILL-MULFORD family lot (Autry's J-165) ? Is this something you devised yourself, did you find it somewhere, or was it provided by a family member or other individual? Thanks so much - John
