His military marker is at the funeral home and ready to be placed in Oak Ridge Cemetery where his ashes were interred.....we just can't figure out why the funeral home has not done it yet !!

When it gets placed, I will shoot the photo and put it on his Find A Grave memorial page.

His niece Ina is a friend of mine.

Jim, I suspect we are related. I am Flo Armentrout Smith's youngest son. She died in 1989 and is buried in Cave Hill Cementary adjacent her mother and father, Marion Harter Armentrout and Lyman Vance Armentrout in Cave Hill here in Louisville where I currently reside. I know my grandmother had three brothers, one of who was named Jim. My mother Flo often talked about Jim "Stuff" who may have been your father. I am named after Marion's husband Vance Armentrout.

I had an opportunity to visit the cementary years ago in Mount Vernon and visited the Harter grave site. Again I suspect they are our shared great grandparents.

RE: Stauffer
My surname is Garcia. Actually, we live between Mt. Vernon and Fredericktown and just like FindAGrave. Our family is not from around here, so it is a fun way to do local stuff! Actually, I am the one who has contacted you about Sarah Swetland (who married Almon Stauffer). :o)

So far, the only Stauffer articles I've found are one about the wedding of Clifford Rockwell and Margaret Stauffer, one about the marriage of JAmes HArter and Mary Stauffer, and an obit for Sarah Swetland Stauffer. I would have thought I already sent you those, but if one doesn't ring a bell, let me know!

Oh, I did just find an article about Flo Armentrout's wedding -

Armentrout-Smith Wedding

An announcement of a marriage which will come with a great deal of interest
to many persons in Mt. Vernon is that of Miss Flo Harter Armentrout,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Vance Armentrout of Louisville, Ky., to Mr.
Addison Escott Smith. The marriage took place Tuesday, Dec. 4, in

The bride is a granddaughter of Mrs. George S. Harter of 803 E. Gambier

RE: Flo Armentrout Smith
So welcome! I came across the article and remembered the name "Harter". Then, trying to find her was funny, as it sounded like she would have died. But, I found her parents and you had the memorials! I always try and remember the Harters when I am reading through Mt. Vernon newspapers!

RE: Annie Apple Van Marm
Thank you so much for the name correction. :) I knew Annie in Fayetteville. I am also friends with her mom. Annie's passing still brings tears to my eyes...all these years later...

Thanks for the extra TLC
Alexander Stanfield is my 3rd, great-grandfather. Taking the time to clean up his headstone is very admirable.

Your friend, Susan.

Tony Lewis

I posted pictures on Tony's memorial. I apologize for the crooked pictures. I had others helping me with the photo taking and I don't think they realized the importance of getting a clear shot of the full gravestone.

I am thinking that perhaps Lula and Tony's origianl grave marker might have been replaced since it is in excellent condition and only shows their birth and death years without the actual month and day being listed.

Also, I added three more pictures to William Cash's memorial that I had taken. I have five pictures of Martha's side of the marker and will post them when you get a memorial added for her.

It looks like William and Lula Cash did indeed die the same year. William's death date appears to be July 08, 1936.
