Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have always been fascinated with history, both the history of my family and history in general. As a child, I loved to hear my grandmother and her brother and sisters talk about their Grandpa Beachum who was a Confederate soldier, and their great great Grandfather King, who was a Soldier in the Revolution. Their stories made these long dead people live again for me.

To me, Find A Grave is not only a wonderful resource for historical research, but also a personal way of remembering loved ones... both loved ones we've known, and loved ones from the long past.

Jeremiah Fields of Guilford County, North Carolina
I've found your Field/Fields postings extremely useful, and I am hopeful that you can suggest a solution to a long-standing problem for me. I am descended from a Revolutionary soldier, Benjamin Phipps (ca 1761-1838), who was born in Guilford County, NC, and died in Grayson County, Va. Benjamin had a younger brother, Aaron Phipps (ca. 1763-1840), who was also a Revolutionary soldier and lived his entire life in Guilford County.

In 1845 Aaron Phipps's widow Jane (Ingle) Phipps applied for a pension based on her husband's service. She had to prove her marriage, and her oldest son Samuel Phipps made an affidavit based on the record of his birth in 1788. In the affidavit, Samuel Phipps stated: "his Father the said Aaron Phipps had his age set down by his cousin Jeremiah Fields, as he was a poor penman in an old Testament as he has frequently heard his Father say." It's unclear whether Samuel meant that Jeremiah Fields was Aaron Phipps's cousin or Samuel's cousin. The Ingles, Samuel's mother's family, are well documented, however, and I cannot find any Field connection among them. So I think that the Fields connection is on the Phipps side. Can you suggest what it might be? Could it be that Mary Phipps, the daughter of William and Jane Phipps, married a Phipps and was the mother of Joseph and Aaron Phipps? Or could the scribe Jeremiah Fields be connected to the Phippses through his mother?

RE: Capt. John A. Lindsay # 144055317, p. s.
Hi John. You have a wonderful eye. I didn't catch that, even though I highlighted the publish date. I have spent the last 3 days doing a huge amount of searching for John's death, without any success.I have 5 newspaper articles dated July 17th to July 28th and all state his injury "A few days ago" except Greensboro Patriot states "last week" on 7-23-1868.I like to have factual info that I can document....don't know what happened here. I'll correct DOD on Ancestry. Thanks for your proofreading,Cousin!

We transferred his memorial to you since you are related. We know you can add better info to it than we can!
Cheers! PattyB&JR

RE: Charles Ferguson # 40874354
Hi, I have been working on some of the Ferguson's near Washington, IL and have sent edits or messages with all the info. I had. Good luck in your searches! We have a gentleman locally who also works on the Civil War veterans from around the Peoria, IL area so I know it takes a lot of time. Have a great holiday season!

RE: correction
I just realized I did not add the memorials for the Sherwoods, I only added the headstone photos. So I am unable to transfer them. Sorry!

RE: correction
Hi, I am not related to the Sherwoods at all. I am nearing the end of a personal project to survey all of Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson (over 15,000 burials) since my parents, maternal grandparents, and hundreds (literally) of other relatives are buried there. It has been a fascinating journey. One of the most rewarding things is to hear from someone who is happy I have found their long-lost relatives.

I will gladly transfer all of the memorials I have added for the Sherwoods to you.

If I run across more Sherwoods, I will do likewise.
