Bio Photo FOR ALL THE FOLKS THAT SPUTTER ABOUT WHAT INFORMATION I AM LACKING ON MY MEMORIALS...PLEASE SEE PHOTO AT LEFT. IT SHOULD EXPLAIN MY DILEMMA!

I have gone around a lot of Caledonia County of Vermont photographing entire cemeteries. I am in the process of transcribing all of the photos and will post names that are not already on the site.
But, as I live in the world of "not much better than dial-up internet", it will be at the most basic level. (ie, not linking family members). The volume is just too high, and internet too slow. I will, however, do my best to keep up with any requests made.
THERE IS A LOT OF TALK AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT MEMBERS WHO APPEAR TO BE NUMBER COLLECTORS. BE ASSURED I AM NOT ONE OF THEM. MY GOAL IS NOT TO ATTAIN THE HIGHEST NUMBER IT IS TO HAVE ADDED ALL MY PHOTOS AND HAVE A NUMBER OF ZERO MAINTAINED! I THINK THEY SHOULD BE WITH FAMILY..AND THAT IS A BROAD SCOPE. ANYONE IN THE TREE IS CLOSER THAN I AM. I MERELY PHOTOGRAPHED A FEW CEMETERIES.

Desjardins
Thank you so much for the photos of John Leo & Mary Amanda (Cota) Desjardins gravestone in St. Elizabeth's Cemetery. I really appreciate it, as I live in CA now.

RE: really need to wait for coffee to sink in
lol I know how that goes. We just had our 6 year old granddaughter visiting us for three weeks... seriously cut in to my research time. Plus with all the families I research it is very difficult to remember where I left off. lol

Hello Anne,

Thank you for clearing up my confusion between Ralph W. Laird and R. W. Laird who is Robert, as you indicated. I appreciate the help.

Are you related to Lairds in Vermont?

Peace,
Bruce

Oh cool! I forgot that there might be things like that in the paper when someone has "abandoned" a spouse! So that date is about the date he would have filed for divorce. Didn't last very long. lol

So... if Dolly was 1st, Hannah 2nd, Mary Kenfield 3rd... and Mary Swain 5th on Aug 1, 1874 in Meredith, NH.... then would the Arvilla Smith, age 31, living with him in 1870 Victory, VT possibly be his 4th wife? I can't find if he married her or if she was just a relative. He still had Roseanna 15 and Hibbard 11 at that time so probably needed another wife (and they would have been even younger when Mary Kenfield took off in 1863... so possibly he remarried right away again?). I can't find a thing on Arvilla.

When he married Mary Swain in 1874 it was her 2nd so I don't know her maiden name and no age... and it was his 5th... but neither listed divorced or widowed. Then in 1880 he was in Michigan and listed as single, so I can't find what happened to Mary Swain Smith.

I'm lucky my hubby likes genealogy and helps me with the cemeteries. Our 6 year old granddaughter has been doing them with us since she could barely walk. She was disappointed this month when she visited because her old Nonnie can't walk the cemeteries much anymore. So she went with her Poppie to get pics for me (and lectured him in the cemetery to look harder... because Nonnie wouldn't give up!). LOL

lol coffee really does help, doesn't it? lol

Thank you for letting me know you found her obit. So cool you found obits on several of these people. I never have luck looking for older obits.

There definitely were a LOT of Smith's over there in VT. I'm still looking for a bunch of them. I just can't seem to stop with one person... I have to track down the whole family... and then their extended families... etc etc. Sometimes it's a very deep rabbit hole I find myself lost in. lol

If it wasn't for you adding the info in Hannah Colby Smith's bio (Cyrus's wife after Dolly Colby) about Cyrus moving to Stanwood, Michigan I never would have tripped across his grave there... then finding that Cyrus & Hannah's daughter, Rose, also went to Michigan and is buried there. So thank you for adding info to bios! Wish more people would do that. lol
