I live in Lynn, MA but I also have roots in Maine. I love researching my genealogy and have been very lucky in finding so many ancestors that go back to the 1600's. I would be delighted to share info with relatives as well as any one else who is interested. I'm looking forward to having more time for this once I retire.|

I've never tried to clean them other than knocking off some moss. I just found a potentially useful site:
One thing not discussed, however, is do you have the right/permission to clean it? I don't really know the answer to that question but it's something to consider. Who owns them? Who's responsible for them? If I wanted to do it I think I'd check with the local historical group if the stones are old and maybe the town or religious group that might own the graveyard and see what their policy is.
Good luck with it.

I got John's wife's name from a book on the Averill family. You can access the two volumes at:
The book is called "The Averell-Averill-Avery Family, A Record of the Descendants of William and Abigail Averell of Ipswich, Mass." by Clara A Avery, Publish Date ???.
Her name was apparently very fluid.

I happen to help your relative James Hardy of Holbrook, where he works at Star Market in Quincy. He is retiring from Star at the end of May on his 65th birthday, after having worked there for just over 25 years.

Hey Rachel - I have done extensive (like the last two years) of research into the Hazelton family for my Fiance. Unfortunately Lydia was a pretty popular name back then and the Lydia who I have extensive information on and direct ancestor of my Fiance is not the one you are looking for. However like I said in two years I have dug up a lot resource material. I just reviewed some of it for you. "Genealogical Sketches of Robert and John Hazelton" These two brothers were the first of the family to come to the new world and half of the Hazelton's in the US can be linked back to them. Here is a link to view the book for free. https://archive.org/details/genealogicalsket00laph
After going through the index comparing all of the Lydia's I think you will find yours on page 161. Unfortunately there is little information but it may give you leads on other people to look for which might help your research. Please feel free to get back to me if I can be of more help, wish I could have done more. Doug

You're very welcome! If I find your Silas, I'll upload the information with the location so it'll be easier for you to find.
Thanks again and happy hunting!

We did one better. That same day, we toured the Barrett House in New Ipswich, NH. I am told that the New Ipswich Barretts are at least distantly related to the Ashby Barretts. Let me know if you are interested in any other Barrett graves in this area.
|Jim Stevens||RE: obadiah wheeler|
Could you send me a link or memorial number for the Obadiah Wheeler memorial that you are referring to? My wife has 2 Obadiah Wheeler ancestors (father and son), memorials 125435085 and 108588291.
I am always so happy to see memorials managed by family!
As for me, no connection to the Whites from the Mayflower. I have yet to find any New England ties to my family lines. My husband's White line was originally Weit and came to the US late 1700s, settling in Berk County, PA.
