I have been interested in genealogy for about nine years. I became interested when I found most of the research had already been done on my mother's side of the family going back for centuries. Until then, I had only speculated about my ancestry. I do some traveling with my job and as luck would have it, it is in an area where most of my relatives are buried (on Mom and Dad's side). When I am not too busy on the job I am out hanging out in cemeteries. It is so exciting to actually find the grave of some of the ancestors where I have only seen a name on paper. It validates their existence and a link to my heritage. I love to pass that along to someone else who may also be looking, but is just too far away. Famous ancestors in my tree are "Jack Daniels" 1st cousin 4 times removed as well as the Majors family "Tennessee Vols" and Robert Burns "the poet". |
After finding my family cemetery, I joined with other descendants to restore our ancestors final resting place. My GGGGrandfather James B. Gowen is a veteran of the War of 1812. This cemetery is on, what used to his land. He planted a cedar tree and asked when he passed away to be buried under this tree. Some 70 years later he was. See www.gowencemetery.com

|Wendell Walker||Elizabeth "Betsy" Smith-Humble Cem.|
Just noticed you placed a message on my
ancestor, Elizabeth "Betsy" Smith's memorial.
She is buried in Humble Cem., Bledsoe Co.Tn.
I am wondering why you placed a note saying
not to upload cemetery headstone or gates?
I do not understand what you mean?
I have the old rock headstone uploaded and a
sign of Humble Cem. on the memorial.
I do not understand the note?
Share with me what you are saying?

|Roberta Burnett||Elizabeth Callaway - photo you shot|
Thanks for cleaning up the grave marker for Elizabeth. It looks like new.
Elizabeth's child was Robert C Daniel, and he married Wincey Travis. She had a daughter named Kerren (Caran) Daniel. Caren married James Columbus Owen, who owned and ran a successful pioneer general purpose store, so it's likely she had a good life then, but he died in 1849 and she married two other men. JC (called Lum) and wife Margareta Eugenia Dixon (an important family name ancestrally) are the connector to my grandmother Edna Owen who was born in a sandflat town in SW Texas, Carrizo Springs. Ultimately, gm Edna took her daughters (incl. my mother) to Los Angeles, then a relatively small town, to start a new life, after divorcing her husband.
My grandmother knew the Travis family members who had migrated to the area of SW Texas.
Cordially, Roberta Burnett
