|Tom Davis||John Wasson Headstone|
I question the headstone associated with Johm Wasson (Find A Grave Memorial# 70552362). According to information I have the John Wasson who is the father of Elizabeth Wasson Hartley has birth and death dates of 1715 to 1756. That would make him about 40-41 years old at his death, not 69 as the headstone indicates.
My information also has him married to Mary Ann Means Sloan Wasson (Find A Grave Memorial# 152421586), also the mother of Elizabeth Wasson Hartley. Information on Mary Ann's memorial says that he was killed by Indians in 1756 and buried on his farm. His remains were not found until 1951. The headstone shown is of a style much earlier than that date, so I doubt it is the headstone of the John Wasson who is the father of Elizabeth Wasson Hartley.
Any information you have to the contrary would be appreciated.

THANK YOU sooooooo much for the transfer!!! For the longest time, I didn't know who Mary was, other than the wife of my 2x great grandfather. Other Ancestry members had her as "Mary Hannah Deed". I thought Hannah was her middle name, possibly. They had no information to back anything up. It had become "heresay". I just couldn't get any hits with everything I tried. Adding Newspapers.com to my subscriptions is worth every penny, and contributors like YOU...are priceless! GOD BLESS...all of this discovery, and to wake up to the transfer...made my weekend...and so much more! This is a labor or love, as it is for so many, Many blessed returns to you!!
P.S. I live in her granddaughters home. Sadly, they never met. My great grandfather, John, moved to Michigan, while it seems most stayed in PA. Mary died 20 years before Marion was born here in Detroit,. She passed in 1992.

As I believe that they represent the same person.

RE: Gospel Herald Obits
I have been going through my database which contains many Mennonite entries and been updating data. I have also been adding links, death certificate and other data to Find A Grave. Since I have family in Juniata County I have been able to make linkages to many people in the area and adding them to my family database which is now over 60,000 people. I hope to make a copy of this and give it to Betty Ann Landis at the Mennonite History Center. They may be able to find some use for it as when I am gone
Hi Clancy, Excellent, you might want to consider also giving a copy of your family databases to the Juniata County Historical Society, 498B Jefferson Street, Mifflintown, PA 17059 (717) 436-5152
Hope this was the last snow storm of the season. Stay warm, Leo Shelley

|Leo||Gospel Herald Obits Great Work|
Hi Clancy, glad to hear that you are adding the information to your entries and linking them to family members. One thing you may wish to consider it that I have done is:
I hereby appoint the Juniata Mennonite Historical Society as steward over my memorials upon my death. Its Contributor Find A Grave# is 47941642.
I was considered that updates would become available for my Find A Grave entries after I was gone and no one would be making the corrections. Betty Ann indicated the Center would be willing to assume that work. You may want to contact her and see if they would be willing to update your entries.
What are your Juniata County families. Mine are Shelley, Shellenberger, Benner, Graybill, Brubaker, Hibbs, and Smith. My parents were Oscar William Shelley Find A Grave# 55624779 and Elva Pearl Smith Shelley Find A Grave# 55624844 I thank you for adding photos of their tombstone to their Find A Grave entries. Have a good week, Leo Shelley

Hi Clancy, Since you are not able to get out to add new entries if you have time on your hands you might want to go back to those you entered from Mennonite cemeteries and add the obits that appear in the Gospel Herald.
Hope you are enjoying this weather as much as I am though I am concerned about the peach and cherry tree coming into bloom too soon. Have a good day, Leo Shelley

I've added the death info and the maiden name. The maiden name threw me off since I've seen Mc Alvaine. Thanks!

You're very welcome.
|NedraE||Charles Wood gravesite|
Clancy, I appreciated your suggestions on searching to see if Charles Wood, buried in St. Peter's Cemetery in Juniata County PA was my husband's father.
BUT... the first call I made was to United Church of Christ, as St. Peters was in their conference. They gave me the name and phone number of the pastor who put us in contact with one of his parisioners. Not only is THIS grave site my husband's father, but he had 3 other sons by his 2nd wife, and we now have two new half brothers found. The inscription on the grave is daddy's amateur radio callsign, and both my husband and his oldest half brother are amateurs, as are their sons. Runs in the family.
Thank you for your suggestions and your helpfullness.
