You're welcome. I'll send any "new" ones your way as I come across them. I will need to make another trip to complete the photographing of all markers in the cemetery. I need to do the newer sections now. Hopefully soon!

LeRoy "Bud" Shafer served in WWII, ARMY Branch, and served from the state of Nebraska. He later joined the National Guards in his hometown of Kearney Nebraska.

I don't know all my grandma told me is that Clifford was the youngest but she might be wrong about that he died in a hunting Account and that he past in Ionai, Michigan

Here is David's obituary from the Colfax Library CA. Unfortunately they didn't include the paper's name or date. His memorial is #86561385. You can see his AZ birth certificate at

David O Thurman, 64, a resident of Colfax for the past nine years, died in Auburn Faith Community Hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Pierce, Arizona on August 28, 1916. He was a retired Lt. Col. serving with the U.S. Army for 23 and one-half years. He was a member of the Yreka VFW Post 3813 and the Retired Officers Association.

Thurman is survived by his widow Marion, a son, Merl of Loomis, two daughters, Alice Sopp of Foresthill and Mary Goossen of Fresno, two grandchildren, a brother, John of Pacheco, three sisters, Daphna Pyeatt of Oregon, Nellie Shepard of Arizona and Clarice Trombly of South Pasadena, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Inurnment services will be held next week in the Colfax District Cemetery, with Rev. Robert Findley, officiating. Contributions may be made to the Colfax United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or to the Auburn Faith Community Hospital Foundation and may be left with the staff at the Sierra Chapel.
