RE: Oscar Develvis
Hi Yessie -
I do have some information on Oscar Develvis. He was interviewed for the Harrison Searchlight newspaper published in 1986. He told some of his life story in this interview. Came from Sidney Ohio to Montana, then on to Harrison Idaho. The article has two photos of Oscar. The fellow who interviewed him also took his tape recorder along, so there is a recording of that interview. Since I work with the local historical society in Harrison, I have transferred that cassette recording to CD and Oscar gave a hour long interview for the newspaper man named Bert Russell. He talked about having only a third grade education. He worked on farms in Montana where he was with his father. They lost everything in the depression in 1930 and moved to Harrison, Idaho. He took odd farm jobs and then the section job on the railroad for 30 years when he retired at the age of 65. He was well known in Harrison and spent a lot of time each day at the local Rose Cafe and Bar.
