I've been doing genealogy since 1976. This has been a fun hobby looking up my ancestors and finding out who and where they are buried. It shows me what stock I come from my heritage. |
Plus this is a great source for finding others in my tree to fill in the gap of blanks in my family history.
I use this as a training place for helping others trying to find their ancestors to learn where they come from and who they may be related to.
Researching surnames on Boelling, Gardner,
Ungry, Wert, McLaughlin, Gustin, Brinkmann, Black,
Henry and others.
Been known to be a "Gravestone whisperer".

Mahala Vance and her husband Lemuel Vance are both buried at Johnson Cemetery, Solomon, DeWitt County, Illinois. The information given at findagrave.com indicates her maiden name as Judy. That is incorrect information. Lemuel and Vance and Mahala Idleman were married in Hardy County, Virginia on 20 June 1838. Mahala's parents were John Idleman and Appolonia "Abby" Frye. I myself descend from John and Abby Frye. I cannot provide findagrave.com information for either of them because the location of their burial place on or near their land near Lahmansville, present-day Grant County (but Hardy County, Virginia at the time of Mahala's birth), West Virginia is unknown. At the 1850 census, John Idleman is living as a widower in the household of Lemuel and Mahala Vance.....because Idleman's wife Abby (Frye) was dead by 1840. Kindest regards, Gary Tucker

|Joseph Mann||William Gustin|
My goodness, he was one of 27 siblings. Daddy was very busy.
I checked with cemetery records and they do not have a listing for William Gustin at Greenwood. There are several Gustins buried there, but the earliest recorded burial was in 1953.
Many union and confederate soldiers where buried at Greenwood and Fireman (now Cypress Grove) and other locations during the civil war. However, union soldiers were re-interred at Monument Cemetery (now Chalmette National Cemetery). I checked with the Chalmette list of burials and he is not listed. However, there are over 2,000 unknown burials. I suspect he is at Chalmette under an unknown marker.
Confederate remains were relocated to the Confederate Monument at Greenwood. There are a few hundred remains were buried in that grave, with only one identified (Mumford). Union forces did not bury many, if any, confederates at Chalmette. Many confederates were discovered at the defunct Cypress Grove Cemetery, and are currently under Canal Street in New Orleans.
I am currently out of town but upon my return I will go through the Greenwood archives to see if they have any information on William Gustin. Because the burial is so old, I suspect they will not no data on him.
I hope this helps.

She is my husband's great aunt. We just found her will, and she died 14 January 1918 in Drake County, Iowa. Her son Basil McConnell was her executor. I am thinking she may be buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. I don't know if you are able to find more information or not. Thank you, Juanita Chrz

I would be delighted to exchange information.
Shall we proceed off line?
|Bill Foy||Mary Black and Blanch Black.|
Mary is my aunt (Mary Foy) and I see some old messages about them . If still interested contact me. just joined so don't know how this works. Both Mary and Henry died in CA. Blanche had their bodies shipped to Cheyenne although they spent their lives in Laramie only living in Cheyenne a short time. While living in Cheyenne Blanches new husband was killed in a car accident he was buried in his families plot. There were several vacant spaces so I guess that is why she sent them here. There are no grave stones as I checked that several years ago. Bill Foy

No, I don't have Mary's obituary. The only person who might have it is Mary's brother John William Foy's son, William G. Foy. Bill is 87 years old but is still of sound mind. I will contact him to see if he has the obituary.

Also, there is an Albert Miroglio, b. 16 Nov 1911, d. 4 Sep 1964 in Contra Costa Co., CA (whose mother's surname was Marello) listed in the California Death Index.
I went through all the burial listings for the Cheyenne cemeteries and did not find Blanche in any of them. We went to Lakeview again today and checked to see if she is buried with her first husband (Thomas Wixtead) in Lot 1918. There is no grave marker for her in that location or the immediate area.
Do you have any specific info that she is actually buried in Lakeview? It is a very old cemetery and I have found many marked graves that are not on the cemetery's digital records.
