Not too much to tell - I'm an amateur genealogy researcher and don't care to help out others with their research if I can. I'm retired and have some time available to do this. I believe that all burial grounds are sacred, and that each and every grave means something to someone.

I work mostly Washington County, TN and a bit of Unicoi County, TN. I am a member of the Cemetery Survey Team of Northeast Tennessee and serve as the graveyard representative for the Heritage Alliance.

My F-A-G work is somewhat limited. It goes in spurts. I enjoy trying to help folks out. It seems hard to get errors fixed, however. I continue to work locally and, if asked, I try to assist researchers. I work more on graveyard documentation, restoration, and preservation. I appreciate those of you who sent thank you messages, I truly do - you account for about 10 percent of the requests that I process. To the others, please think about your volunteers - they research the locations of the markers, often hike to family cemeteries thru brush and briars, we spend hours and dollars fulfilling requests - It is work and we take it seriously.

RE: Bean Cemetery, Unicoi County
Thank you Gordon, This is huge. I can now see where they lived. I would love to see the two fieldstone markers too. Maybe I can get some estimated date by looking at them? You may think what you gave wasn't much but I can assure you this really help the family historians.

Bean Cemetery, Unicoi County
Wow, I am lucky that you have Margaret Bean listed and this cemetery. I feel confident her father is there too, even though he isn't listed. She took care of him and he is with her when he was age 80.

Do you have grid coordinates to the cemetery or instructions on where it is located? this will assist on knowing where they lived during the 1800s.

Thank you as anything will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks so much on re-checking on George Hensley and Robert Sams. Recently I had a response from Unicoi Co., which triggered my go through my ledger to recheck on photo requests. I think these were notes I forgot to make, so I was happy to hear from you. I so swamped in Greene Co., just now. Hope you are well.

Gordon, you will have to get permission from Giles Shelton to go to the Joseph Ray Cemetery. I haven't had time to clean the cemetery as I spent lots of time in Virginia taking care on my 98 year old mom. You have to cross his land and the cemetery is on his land. The cemetery needs lots of work to make it look presentable. I put an American flag on the graves while I was up there. I am still hoping to go clean it up. We are putting a roof on the Sweetwater Church of God now and Monday I am back to Virginia. I think there are two Civil War Veterans buried there. Edgar

RE: Joseph Ray
Gordon, this cemetery is on private land and has not been cleaned in years. I hope to in a couple of weeks go and clean it. It is on Devils Fork Road back on top of a mountain. Hopefully you will wait a while until I get it cleaned off.

Thanks for all the CW soldier grave photos. I had no idea you had so many. I do not have any additional information on James Carter, Memorial #141701834, other than what I found on Find A Grave. I double checked my ETHC resource to see if I coud turn up a request for a gov't stone, but did not find one. As you probably know lots of those records were lost in a fire long ago, so he still could have a VA stone. Sorry I can't tell you anything else.
