Yowell cemetery (from Garrett Gabel)
Hello Carole, Actually, I use plain old flour to help transcribe the hard to read headstones. I simply take a soft bristle brush and water to clean the stone, let it dry, leaving it slightly damp. Then dust the stone with flour and it is amazing what a difference it makes, especially the epitaphs. Furthermore, the flour doesn't harm the stone, it comes off after a couple rains. My friend and I recently restored the old Yowell cemetery, my, what a jungle it was! I usually tackle a couple of old abandoned cemeteries every winter in the Southern Phelps/N.W. Dent counties of Missouri. It's enjoyable work. As to your question of the particular families being mentioned in my books...yes, the Coppedge and Yowell families are definitely mentioned in my "History of Yancy Mills, Mo." and also "Harvest" books. My "Days of Yore" book is out of print, I intend to publish more of them next year with additions. I don't recall the Burnett family being mentioned in any of my books. If interested, I'll be happy to inform you of book prices, etc. Have a Happy Easter weekend. Regards, Garrett Gabel

John Matrin McMurtry
If I remember correctly, you put virtual flowers on the grave of my Mr. McMurtry. He is my great-great uncle. I am trying to find information on his grandparents (the parents of Joseph Newton McMurtry). Do you know anything about this family?

RE: Birth date for Carmen Orand #142102021
that may have come from an obituary or death certificate. I would put more faith on the date on the marker eventhough I have seen them in error as well. Thanks for the update !

RE: marriage of elizabeth Gentry and robert Reed
Hi Carol,

I find most of my information on, but I double check by checking husbands, children and parents! I really try to be correct...but as you know, we aren't perfect. I'm happy if I helped you in any way! I used find a grave and 'dig' information from that. It has been a great help!
I go to many places in person to check records, it's a neat way to sneak in vacations!

RE: marriage of elizabeth Gentry and robert Reed
Hi Carol,
I found my information on while researching my own Genealogy. I'm not sure where they fit in on my family. I could use a few more cousins!
I'm happy to have helped you, sometimes it really gets rough!

RE: Eliza Gleason #124453535
Received notice of transfer; will try to verify the info you sent and update; just back home now so will be a bit before that is done. Thanks for the detailed message as it gives me a way to check on what IS right. Eliza is already in my tree at Ancestry so will go look this up again to be sure I have it right there, based on census records etc and not just somebody's word. Chris Finch

I got the date from the G.A.R. Cemetery records. It only lists the date of burial. You could call the cemetery and see if they have any other info.
